(13,685 posts)People are for H because she is. Right here on DU are many examples. Seems to be some sort of misandry going down.
brewens
(13,846 posts)are burning to see a woman in the White House! I mean there would have to be some reason other than that wouldn't there? Like maybe if you were well off and didn't want anyone to rock the boat?
Punkingal
(9,522 posts)I can only tell you I have been told I should support her because I am female.

(68,918 posts)...it's going to be a blast.
On a serious note, a (locked) post on here made me go look at the HOF group... it appears it is an auxiliary Hillary group, blocking members who don't support her. That depresses this boots-on-the-ground feminist no end.
brewens
(13,846 posts)be thrilled that her winning would mean our first woman president! But my supporting her wouldn't have that much to do with her gender.

(9,522 posts)Lots of depressing things here these days. Remember when I was a Clarkie and you were a Deaniac and we still loved each other? It should still be possible here, but it doesn't seem like it is.

(4,187 posts)Clearly, the voters thought there was more to her than just her gender.

(3,166 posts)one way or another, you can still win and be unqualified, dishonest, beholden to special interest but before you get the vapors like your hill supporters are apt to do, hill is qualified. But in this party, in this era, when the country is moving to the left and a candidate as flawed as she is, that is about the only thing she has going for her besides her husband, is being a women
Remember Albright aghast because young women were not flocking to Clinton, solely on the reason that they should vote for her because she is a women
athena
(4,187 posts)If you had bothered to read the article I posted, you would know that she is none of those things. Ergo, calling her nothing but a female governor was sexist.
gabeana
(3,166 posts)I wasn't calling her that, wasn't referring to her but just because a person wins doesn't mean what is said isn't valid
Why was Bush Jr in a position to steal in 2000, he was all of those things I mentioned so according to your logic because he won does it mean all those things weren't true
your contention somehow what Bernie said wasn't true because she won
that means Bush in 2004 didn't lie our way into Iraq because he won, the people spoke

(8,175 posts)The sexist and misogynist claims from Hill camp are so expected now.
There was nothing sexist about his comment. He did not think she was "qualified".
She does very well on television, he told one interviewer. She has an excellent press secretary.
But really, he said another time, the governors appeal came down to one trait.
Mr. Sanders, who was running against her as an independent, saw himself as a leader, and viewed Ms. Kunin as a lightweight
She was also involved in community activities, particularly in the area of women's rights. Women involved in women's rights often get lots of female supporters, regardless of qualifications. I'm not suprised she beat Sanders and the other guy running (R- Peter Smith) as she was the incumbent.
I don't know if she was a good governor or not, but she won three terms, so maybe she was.
That still does not make Bernie's comment sexist (unless you are a Hill supporter in 2016).

(12,890 posts)He was running against her in a campaign. He doesn't owe a female candidate glowing wonderful reviews just because she's a woman.
Let's break this down: "Many people are excited because (insert statistical first of historical significance here). But after that, (I'm still the better choice for voters)."
His comment was not gender-specific at all.

I would love it if Hillary had the same qualities Bernie has and the same positions. If she did I would have never been looking for someone else to be the nominee.

As a new legislator, my first bill introduced in the Vermont House was to increase funding for childcare. I had young children and I knew that finding childcare determined whether or not I could leave my house and come to the capital, Montpelier. And I knew, that for poor women, childcare determined whether they could go to work and support their children. As governor, I saw to it that childcare funding was quadrupled and funding for education doubled. Hillary Clintons career follows a similar trajectory. Education reform was her priority as the governors wife in Arkansas. A bill to cover childrens health insurance (CHIP) was her achievement as a New York senator. Womens rights are human rights and human rights are womens rights was the message she sent to every country she visited as secretary of state. Yes, Hillary has been around, shes been a determined, consistent fighter for childrens welfare and womens rights. Its part of her DNA.
She was drawn to these womens issues now urgent economic issues in the same way that I was, by our experiences as working women, wives, and mothers. A number of men will protest: I believe the same thing as she does.
Whats the difference? The difference is how do they rank on the agenda. Is equal pay near the bottom of the list, or is it a priority? Is defense of Planned Parenthood an issue that saves womens lives, or is it only another institution among many? Placement on a competitive agenda is vital to achieve results. I believe that Hillary Clinton will give high priority to equal pay for equal work, not because she has experienced discrimination herself, but as a woman, she can empathize with women who have been discriminated against. It is a kind of empathy that allows no definition, but I felt it every time I made eye contact with the women I met along the parade route or on the factory floor.

(31,170 posts)and in his race against Kunin. Fortunately, Vermonters made the correct choice back then. I think the majority of voters will continue to send the same message this time around too. Thanks, but no thanks.

(14,881 posts)Unfortunately there's a lot. Warmongering, public corruption, failure to protect national security info. to name 3.
Bottom line, if you're going to make a deal out of being the first female governor -- or president -- then you open yourself to statements that you don't have anything else to offer.
How many times did campaigning Obama remind us that he's AA? None.
How many times has Sanders mentioned that he's Jewish? None.
How many times has Clinton reminded us that she's a woman? More than once. A lot more than once. As a woman, I have found every instance cringe worthy.

(5,051 posts)Strange thing how anyone criticism of a woman is sexist. Such an easy outrage. How lucky the Hillaryites are that she is a woman and they can cry SEXISM over and over.
davenelson5555
(70 posts)His reflection on people being excited that she's the first woman governor, and her not amounting to "much" does not equate to sexist. Perhaps there really wasn't "much" to this person as a public servant. Did you ever consider that? Why must female politicians be spared any form of criticism lest the sexism card be played? Stop crying wolf. It's pathetic.
