We spend a lot of time arguing about Hillary versus Bernie here. Is any of it likely to change anyone's mind?
What is your current pick, at this state of the race?
Thanks!

(25,771 posts)I am making the assumption
as true a rea
ding on the state of the u.s. possible.
Since many here are very touchy about this, it might be a good idea
to make that perfectly clear in the title and wording of your post. for instance, some people might be put off by putting 1 candidates name first in the subject line.
maybe I am overly sensitive - or just plain paranoid.
I do, however,
like your poll.

(14,689 posts)The only thing the discussion here does is harden my stance. Nobody's mind is changing at this point. If anything, all the back and forth just makes both sides more angry.

(23,989 posts)for example, every time i see a Hillary supporter post a "Bernie should drop out" thread, i think of how beneficial it is for the country and the Democratic party to have the debates HRC and SBS are having, and how important it is he continue to the convention. our party has turned away from even thinking about the kinds of bold solutions to our problems like FDR would have proposed, and overly embraced a corrupted incrementalism which tends to cede at least as much ground as it gains. we really do need to change that.
when i see a Bernie supporter post a "Hillary gonna get indicted during the general" thread, i wonder why it's so very important to spread such rumors (that's all they ever turn out to be) over and over and over again. yeah, there's a risk, everyone posting on this forum is aware of it by now, but it's vanishingly small, and Bernie comes with his own set of electoral risks.
i like both candidates, i think both are qualified, either one would have a solid shot at winning the general election. the kind of toxic flamewars we have here are rhetorically unconvincing and ultimately ineffective in diminishing my respect for both. when forumers make asshole posts that they no doubt consider witty and convincing, all it usually does for me is make me think they're acting like assholes.
much earlier in the process, i was able to ask questions and get reasonable, informative answers from DUers of either persuasion. lately i get ignored in-thread, probably dropped onto an ignore list or two, and maybe get a snarky reply from someone on the other side mocking the inability of the candidate's supporters to form a cogent response. so GD-P has really gone downhill for me.
i'm still thinking about my pick; honestly i could go either way, and this time my vote might just count.
remember folks: this too shall pass. we'll end up with a supportable candidate and win the general election handily, and probably flip the senate. the various electability problems our candidates currently face are dwarfed by the waves of manure radiating from the dying Republican party. it is this manure that will be used to till the national soil for a decade of Democratic dominance, should our elected representatives actively pursue such a destiny.

To answer your question, I think someone just finding this site could certainly be swayed by the discussion. Nothing short of new evidence that Bernie is hiding a Trillion dollars in the Cayman islands and is solely responsible for Carrier moving to Mexico could sway me.

(9,527 posts)I have problems with both of them (Sanders doesn't explain well enough how he's going to pay for it, or what he specifically wants to do. And Clinton doesn't go far enough. Her college plan doesn't do much in my opinion)
But those problems are nothing when compared to the Republican options. So I'm fine with either candidate. I enjoy looking at the race and I believe in sourcing which is in woeful short supply among people hell bent on name calling.
