Related: About this forumDiscussion: Biggest loser "Not Hillary" Party -- appropriate or not?
Lately on DU this image has been circulating:
I thought Sanders and O'Malley supporters were registered Democrats. Naturally then, the image confuses me. If you don't want our votes in the general election could you please make that clear so that we're all on the same page about what this image is saying? I'd like to see a credible explanation for why this is not dismissing O'Malley and Sanders supporters as members of the Democratic party. It certainly seems to be implying that. Manny thanks in advance.

(8,879 posts)party, I say.
Not Hillary is better than Hillary with a few exceptions, but it's primary season and I don't feel inclined to consider those exceptions at this time.

(3,133 posts)For her accomplishes in Iowa? she was at 63%, had the PAC, money, media, party, all on a silver platter. This is all known. So Bernie was the one that had to do the climbing.
But the bad behavior is not just Hillary supporters, but Hillary herself. In Iowa, many BIG DONORS were snubbed when she bolted, forgot the 'rope line' for those promised a handshake with the former pres. They are now turned off by her, because she blamed them instead of really thanking them, by her behavior. None of them get it.

(8,846 posts)The media can't ignore Sanders anymore. He IS the story now. And the more people hear about him, the more they like him.
And, he handles all Clintons, and the Democratic establishments crap with class.
He's the winner, hands down.
hollysmom
(5,946 posts)they said it was in the interest of being fair, then they called on a Clinton supporter/aise to comment on the Sanders rally, Note they did not have a Sanders aide commenting on the Clinton rally - really being fair - bullshit. The media will never be happy unless business wins again.

(34,845 posts)I don't think anyone has said that Sanders supporters are not 'true Democrats' but there are many here who have proclaimed they will not vote for the nominee if it's not someone they approve of. That, to me, is arrogant petulance, and I think that image you've posted is in response to that.

(26,549 posts)The graphic in the OP literally throws Sanders supporters into the "Not Hillary" party. How on Earth is that not saying they are not 'true Democrats'?
How DARE those evil people think they have a choice in their vote!!!!!
Either remaining candidate is going to have to win over the supporters of the other candidate. Taking any voters for granted is how we lost 2014, 2010, 2004, 2002 and 2000.

(11,495 posts)For one thing this is the first time I have seen this graphic. Second I think the "not Hillary" party is directed at all those who have decided that "anyone but Hillary" would do for the nominee, you know the group that has decided that the only way to play is by trashing and bashing anyone who does not see things their way, and let me tell you that was not any of the O'Malley supporters, and it's not everyone who supports Bernie. It is a group that from day one have gone after president Obama trashing and bashing him daily. They then went after the whole party, trashing and bashing. They refused to see anything good about president Obama, the party as a whole, and then they turned their sites in Hillary. They are the ones who post day after day things that one would expect from the right wing, no from fellow democrats.
I for one know that not those who support Bernie are in that group. There are some great posters that are Bernie supporters who don't trash and bash, they actually post things about Bernie instead of just trying to destroy Hillary with negative posts. Reality is that trashing and bashing isn't working to make anyone like Bernie more than Hillary, actually it sheds a bad light on Bernie when those who claim to be his supporters act that way. Even Berne has asked the "Bernie bro" crowd so simmer down and stop acting this way, but sadly they don't seem to be listening to him. As I said it's not all supporters of Bernie, just the bash and trash gang.

All reasonable points you make. Perhaps I shouldn't have taken it so personally; I see both the positive in Bernie and the negative in Hillary. Obama I wouldn't fault for much. I do think he wasn't well served by centrist advisers however.

(19,926 posts)Not to mention, last night was anything but a win for Hillary. We all know she has got to be fuming. Look at Bill and Chelsea behind her during her speech last night. And her supporters. You can see no joy in Hillaryville.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1280107965
They know this was a huge loss for them since a virtual unknown with no big money and virtually no MSM coverage, who was being smeared by the establishment for the last week, virtually tied her.
This was a YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE win for Bernie no matter how you look at it. He is the one who gets the momentum out of this. He is the one who will get people looking to him now who weren't before. She is the one who people will question whether she can win this or not. And expect even more people to change from Hillary to Bernie than already have now that they see he can win the whole enchilada.
The idiotic Hillary supporters who are trying to force this meme out that this was a great win for Hillary are trying to convince themselves of that. And if they think that anyone who isn't for Hillary doesn't belong in the party they can fuck off.

(34,845 posts)...of supporting the oligarchy or saying that she will cheat and do anything to win and claim how devious and deceitful she is. So I think the graphic does not pertain to supporters in general, only to those who try to promote a candidate by constantly belittling another.

(59,498 posts)in 1992 and 1976 respectively. Bu defining as one group everyone not Hillary. The ironic thing was the ABC efforts - which never gained traction had as a goal finding one person to be the sole ABC candidate to be AGAINST the front runner.
It is weird when the vote split 50/50, that anyone supporting anyone would want to eliminate half of the Democratic party. (Not to mention if O'Malley is part of the not Hillary -- she has the slightly smaller half.) Whoever wins needs the other half. Both parties start with about 40% of the population -- if you intentionally kick out half, how do you win?

(44,063 posts)Plenty of memes and lots of hyperbole all around DU, the site seems to thrive on that.

(34,095 posts)there is a LONG way to go. Let them dance about this, we would likely do the same.
Hopefully they will not have that much to dance about as we move along.
Just LOVE the 'Not Hillary' Party how pretentious and attempting to be demeaning. Consider the source and move on, it is useless to fight all the crap battles. It is probably a pretty empty victory as victories go.
JonLeibowitz
(6,282 posts)And that's when it will really be insulting at a point when hopefully DU is expected to fall in line behind the nominee. I would probably just walk at that point.
MuseRider
(34,095 posts)I just have no time to deal with their silliness. It would make me mad at some point sure. I may have to walk too. I don't like people who act that way be they DUer's (even some Bernie supporters but not many) or people I run into or the Clinton's. The pretentiousness makes me ill.
In the long run I feel sorry for anyone who supports someone who acts this way. How sad for them.
I guess I have decided to suck it up for now and see how things go. I have so many of the people who act that way on Ignore that I don't see this stuff unless someone not like that posts it.

(16,916 posts)At some point, "move on" becomes "move along." Where does it end?
MuseRider
(34,095 posts)sorry about that. I never meant we should give an inch. I just think the whole graphic along with the attitude is silly at best and obnoxious mostly. We all have to do our thing the best way we can. At this point I ignore that stuff and like I said above, I have so many on ignore that I had not seen it. I prefer to work and learn in a place that is productive and I consider nothing coming from the Clinton side productive.
Do what is best for you but I never meant to say to anyone that it should not be fought against. Sorry.

(6,123 posts)...is that the Hillary Party did not get the blow out they were expecting, after all they lost half of the Democratic voters. Iowa isn't an all or nothing state and Bernie received a nice amount of delegates, delegates that didn't go to Hillary.
They can attempt to taunt, but for me....it isn't working.

(10,056 posts)The hubris is stunning.
dana_b
(11,546 posts)is that Hillary owns the Democratic party and the rest of us are losers who don't belong - especially Bernie. We are not wanted and our views don't matter. I'm sure that I'll be told that I'm ridiculous and out of touch but that is how this thing appears to be to me.
Trajan
(19,089 posts)How laughable is that?
First - prancing about, declaring yourself the 'big winner' is a bit egotistical ... A mere 0.2 separate them ... Barely a smidgen ...
Second - what kind of hubris would think this is a good idea? ... Hillary, should she win the nomination, NEEDS every single voter she can get ...
So, insulting Bernie supporters is going to lead them to support her down the road? ... Think again ...
Mindless silliness resembling a high school football cheering section drawing dick pictures in the rivals bathroom walls ...
WTF does 'The Not Hillary Party' even mean? ... What is the symbolism and why would I be offended by that? ... It's a silly reference, in that it places a good many Democrats in the 'Not Hillary Party' ...
Is the Democratic Party the 'Not Hillary Party'? ... Well I sure am hoping so, and, apparently, this meme implies that ...
Ok, so I'm in the Democratic Party all my life, and I am told it's the 'Not Hillary Party' .. Well Hell, let's celebrate then! ... Sounds GREAT to me ... Let's make sure the Democrats in the Democratic Party turn it into the 'Not Hillary Party' ... Perfect! ... Thanks!
Let's make this clear - Hillary needs ME, but I don't need her ... She insults us, then will want my vote ... Good luck with that ...
