2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOctober is coming
Let's look at the Mittster with 41 days until the election. His campaign is in turmoil, his polling in swing states keeps getting worse, his message is ridiculed, his supporters are sick of him, and his running mate calls him the Stench.
Mitt is determined to be president of the United States. It is his birthright, for goodness sakes! The country owes it to him and by god he is going to be president!
He is a cornered wild animal looking for a way out. He is the most dangerous now that he has nothing to lose.
So, what do you think his October surprise will be?
Oh, we know there will be something. It could be as lame as an out of context video of Obama with Reverend Wright or a picture of him smoking marijuana in his 20s. These won't work.
But, the Romney campaign could have something in their back pocket. Or they could be working on manufacturing a fake controversy that would take too long to unravel before the election.
What do you think the October surprise will be for both campaigns?

(13,468 posts)If the rMoney team has an "October surprise" they've shown themselves fully capable of turning it around to hurt their candidate instead.

(10,847 posts)Yes, that would be a surprise for a campaign that is in such terrible shape as Romney's.
The surprise is likely lame and I bet Obama has a really good one - another damning video perhaps.

(36,437 posts)Obama is a good, brilliant, hard-working man, and an excellent chief executive. Romney is an overly ambitious rich guy with very little substance. You can't invent your way out of that, if you're the Romney team or the GOP.
It's also the case that Obama is one of the most brilliant campaigners of modern political history, while Romney is a dud. The Obama campaign is run not just by competent people, but by the most innovative political team we've seen, perhaps ever.
Anything Romney tries at this point will fall flat. He can't change the fundamental dynamics.
