COLUMBUS, Ohio For weeks, Republicans in Ohio have been watching with worry that the states vital 18 electoral votes were trending away from Mitt Romney. The anxiety has been similar in Florida, where Republicans are concerned that President Obama is gaining the upper hand in the fight for the states 29 electoral votes.
Those fears are affirmed in the findings of the latest Quinnipiac University/New York Times/CBS News polls of likely voters in both states, which show that Mr. Obama has widened his lead over Mr. Romney and is outperforming him on nearly every major campaign issue, even though about half said they were disappointed in Mr. Obamas presidency.
The polls, along with interviews with supporters and advisers in the nations two largest battleground states, lay bare an increasingly urgent challenge facing Mr. Romney as he prepares for his next chance to move the race in his favor, at the first debate with Mr. Obama next week. Mr. Romneys burden is no longer to win over undecided voters, but also to woo back the voters who seem to be growing a little comfortable with the idea of a second term for Mr. Obama.

The New York Times, in collaboration with Quinnipiac University and CBS News, is tracking the presidential race with recurring polls in six states. In Ohio which no Republican has won the presidency without Mr. Obama is leading Mr. Romney 53 percent to 43 percent in the poll. In Florida, the president leads Mr. Romney 53 to 44 percent in the poll.

(40,416 posts)And bear in mind, approaching a 10 point spread means that it is outside the error bars. Plus, over 50 percent is the magic number. That means that there are likely insufficient undecideds to flip the poll, all other things being equal.
With these two states going this way, I do not see a path to victory for Governor Romney. He is doomed.

(4,551 posts)Some people are wondering if they have oversampled Democrats. I hope not.
I do notice that even Rasmussen had PA at Obama +12 this past week, so it's interesting that both Ras & Quinnipiac agree on that state .
The OH & FL numbers are higher than other pollsters though, so I'll be interested to see whether other polls pick up the same numbers later this week.

Yes... that was dumb... *slinks off in shame*...

If one of those 2 things doesn't save him, he's probably done.

(225 posts)So if mainstream polls are starting to turn towards the President, it's a big deal because a large portion of democrats (African Americans and young people) do NOT participate in polls for whatever reason (reliance on cell phones; simply hanging up and not wanting to participate).

(4,551 posts)We have to make sure that racial minorities are not suppressed, and that other dishonest activity by the Republicans does not occur.

(225 posts)Believe me, I'm no optimist. The democrats are way too good at fucking up for me to give them any leeway.

(25,415 posts)"Sharon Whalen, 56, a former travel agent from Dade City who said she and her husband voted for Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican nominee, in 2008, said she had developed a very bad impression of Romney. She said she intended to support Mr. Obama and was troubled by the Republican tickets plan for Medicare.
Theres just something about him I dont trust, said Ms. Whalen, a poll respondent who spoke in a follow-up interview. Its not so much that I dont believe what he is saying, but I just dont think hes for the middle and lower class. Hes more for helping the rich."
He is toast with these people. They don't trust them.
And this guy:
"Mr. Romneys comments about the 47 percent of Americans seemed to be undercutting him with other working-class voters here. This last thing, where he was going on about the 47 percent who are dependent on government, is hard to swallow, said Kenneth Myers, a Republican who lives in Mansfield and is unemployed."
He is having issues with working class Republicans in these areas. Republicans! Romney is a horrible candidate.

BTW, this is great news. We are very close to if not already outside the "margin of cheating".
