Saturday, September 22, 2012
Romney, at his San Diego fundraiser, said President Barack Obama was "taking Americans on a course that is extremely foreign to us."
Romney even seemed to take a swipe at the Golden State.
"One would suggest that government knows better than free people," he said. "It's a pathway to become like Europe, and Europe doesn't work there. It's never going to work here. It's even possible we could be on a pathway to become California -- I don't want that either."

(4,551 posts)He goes to California to ask for money, and then ends up insulting the state that gave him money and the state where he lives!
Why does he live in California (only about 100 miles from Hollywood, I might add) if he is always bashing the state? Hypocrite.
Why doesn't he live in his beloved Michigan?

this guy is crazy. It's funny...now that we see more and more of him, his true personality is coming out. Maybe he's exhausted and can't hold it in anymore.
Nutty as a fruitcake.

(4,551 posts)He said it earlier in the year, and other members of the GOP have said similar things.
They see California as sliding down into a pit of socialism and Democratic dominance. In 2010 when the Democrats won all the statewide races in California, Alex Castellanos said on CNN that Republicans are leaving the state for Arizona and Texas because they realize what California has become or something like that.

(16,994 posts)He bashes Europe, then California. One audience even booed at the mention of Europe. They booed.
Then Romney will go on to invoke Lech Walesa, and engage in some phony hand-wringing about American leadership. Romney will speak well of Walesa and of Tony Blair and of course the Israelis, but that would appear to be it for non-American figures.

(3,557 posts)Granted some countries in Europe are broken, but what about Germany?
Germany, in many respects, is what I'd love for our country to look like.
They have socialized medicine, they take care of their environment, the government has a budget surplus, they actually take care of their workers and lower echelon of their society, they have a solid manufacturing base (after China, they are the second most exporting country in the world), etc.

This supposed GREAT manager has a big money problem, and at the point in his campaign where he should be focused 100 percent on being in public to try to persuade the undecideds into his corner has to spend the bulk of his time kissing butt with big republican wallets.

Somehow, a government run by the elite and corporations equates to liberty while one which values it's citizens quality of life with basis on equality and progress are synonyms to slavery. Conservatism has got to be a mental disorder.

(1,595 posts)...even now, after Obama has been president for 3+ years. Those in the electorate who were xenophobic before Obama's election are familiar enough with him now to grasp the concept that he's 100% American (with the exception of lingering birthers). The Republicans tried this slimy crap last time around and it didn't work.

(3,491 posts)"Romney's 47 per cent quote was so abysmal not because it was dismissive, but because it had no rationality to it. It constructs an America that is a mere projection of its fantasies, and then campaigns to it. Such a process has become a right-wing disease in recent years, a process that began with climate change denialism, and extends to everything from the idea that rape does not cause pregnancy to the ''birther'' movement."
Conservatism is a disease, there's no doubt.
