Nokdu Flower is a new South Korean historical drama about the late 19th Century Tonghak rebellion, a peasants' revolt that arose out of the decadence, corruption. violence and poverty of late Chosun.

The Donghak Peasant Revolution (동학 농민 혁명; 東學農民革命; donghak nongmin hyeogmyeong), also known as the Donghak Peasant Movement (동학 농민 운동; 東學農民運動; donghak nongmin undong), Donghak Rebellion, Peasant Revolt of 1894, Gabo Peasant Revolution, and a variety of other names, was an armed rebellion in Korea led by aggravated peasants and followers of the Donghak religion, a panentheistic religion viewed by many rebels as a political ideology.

1. Watched the last episode of this powerful drama today

Nokdu Flower is probably the best Korean historical drama I've seen thus far. It was 24 one hour episodes.

This historic image of General Jeon Bong Jun, also known as "Noktu" (mung bean), was interposed with the scene recreated in the drama after he and his staff were sentenced to death. The ending of the Tonghak movement was a sad and tragic story, so the drama did not share the fairy tale quality that some other historical Kdrama's present. Nevertheless, it was compelling and beautiful.
