Colonial Beach 'locked off' as officials assess damage from powerful storm

Town of Colonial Beach on Virginia's Northern Neck 'locked off' as officials assess damage from powerful storm.

Officials in the town of Colonial Beach in Westmoreland County are asking people to stay away as they deal with heavy damage from a storm that destroyed at least one house and left the entire town without power.

Colonial Beach Fire Chief David Robey said Saturday morning that the storm had done at least $1 million worth of damage, though state and local officials were just beginning to assess the impact.

"We've locked off the whole town so we can get an assessment of where we stand," said Robey.
