Apparently, asking why someone made up some shit out of thin air is a personal attack? Who knew?
Man, I love this place!
At Sat Jul 21, 2012, 04:13 PM, an alert was sent on the following post:
Why do you just make shit up out of thin air?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1218&pid=36641
REASON FOR ALERT:
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)
ALERTER'S COMMENTS:
personal attack. While these two members go at it all the time, generally one just takes it into ugly and the whole thread deteriorates.
JURY RESULTS
A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Sat Jul 21, 2012, 04:19 PM, and voted 4-2 to HIDE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: Looks like this went off the rails at "blah, blah, blah". Insults and personal attacks don't win an argument. Agreed?
Let's have a "do over" please; spin the discourse up not down.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: This person needs to re-read the DU rules and learn what is meant by PERSONAL ATTACK
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given

(19,705 posts)I would have called him an asshat, or douchebag, or fuckwad, or....well, you get the picture.
Asking why he chooses to make shit up? How is that anything against any rule?

(111,437 posts)For instance, I might have written "People who feel compelled to make shit up have just announced that the discussion is over and that they lost the fight."
See the difference? If anything, the civilized slap with the white glove (with the roll of quarters in it) is much more painful than the direct approach.

(18,219 posts)We all think it is self-evident---but there is a reason why we have to use the smilie.

(12,161 posts)in this case I think I'll just chalk it up to a humor FAIL. lol, I hate it when that happens.

(11,064 posts)In the Atheists & Agnostics Group, your post might be perfectly appropriate. Atheists and agnostics are not supposed to "just make shit up out of thin air."
But you were posting in the Religion Group and openly showing disapproval of those who "just make shit up out of thin air."

(3,622 posts)there are some thin-skinned people out there. That type of response would not get my vote to be hidden but it takes a lot to make me vote to hide something. Of late when I do the "DU Jury Thing" the vote usually comes out 3-3 or better not to hide the post.
I have plural cats and single dog. What can I say. (this sentence is for our troll and stalker in residence).
On edit: Warpy has some good advice that I should also be taking.
