Atheists & Agnostics
Related: About this forumOn the subject of threads and posts about religion....
How many of you here have ever had a post or thread on a religious subject locked/hidden? I've been a member of DU for 12 years and have only had a thread locked once and to be honest, I still can't figure out why. No posts hidden, though.

(49,533 posts)But I've only had 2 posts hidden. Wait, no, 3. Two were absolute jokes, someone got lucky jury-fishing. The third, I can't remember. I wonder if there is an easy way to find them...

(13,029 posts)Sorry, but you're just an apprentice evildoer. They've been trying to drive a stake through my heart for years..

(19,964 posts)Man, you do seem to draw the ire like a magnet. Don't know if I have the mettle to stand in and take like you do. After a while it really gets to me.

(49,533 posts)But when the people who scream at me the most are making homophobic comparisons between gay marriage and marrying a bicycle, or claiming that we atheists would just "go back to hating" minorities or LGBTers if we didn't "hate" religious people, or just generally acting like a 7-year-old who peed his pants, well, it's hard not to think that I must be doing something right.

(13,029 posts)At least some of us heathens have to maintain a respectable image, so that we're not all burned at the stake.
But you can take comfort in the fact that you're on at least one ignore list (unless he's lying out his ass about that, too).

(49,533 posts)Given the behavior of the individuals ignoring me, that makes me proud.

(111,406 posts)Some thin skinned word jumper got a 4-2. It's already gone, I've served my time, and it wasn't about religion.

(18,219 posts)but I also avoid that other group for the most part. I only know of one time that I posted something that went to a jury, and it was a 6-0 to leave it....and I only know about it because someone posted the results for me.
I get little pleasure arguing religion with true believers, and there are too many who have thin skin. I am sure that if I were to post more often there, I would have hidden posts as well.

(9,116 posts)25-man Sindragosa with my idgit guild was measurably less frustrating than just reading those forums, much less participating in them.
Ghostcrawler promised me a pony. And, oh yeah, nerf pallies.

(9,290 posts)What is so hard to understand about run to the mark when you are about to get frozen?
The tank forum was not as bad as some of them. The DPS forum on the other hand....
Anyway, I hear GC left, so I guess that pony won't be coming anytime soon.

(21,046 posts)I told them I was watching my language and being polite, since I wasn't saying "imaginary mass murdering sky-daddy book of fairy tales."

(48,181 posts)The mass murdering part is either a fact or a fairy tale, thus causing cranial implosion.

(21,046 posts)Telling the truth about religion is a cardinal sin to them.

(19,964 posts)... and I suppose some fireworks can be expected among the various discussion groups under that header, I guess I'm more curious how you feel your posts within threads touching upon religious subjects are received on the "main fora" such as LBN and General Discussion. Do you feel that an A/A perspective is generally more well received on the main fora? Do you feel there is balance in the way posts/threads on religious matters are handled in a juried system? If you've had posts hidden, were they religion-related?
Of course this is not some scientific survey but how folks perceive they are being heard and received is still important.

(48,181 posts)That was clear during the Pope Wars a while ago.

(13,485 posts)religion with the religious. It's like talking to Jello. Honestly I'm not trying to be disrespectful to the persons, it's the emptiness of concepts jiggling in space, watching TV without plugging it in, eating air, doing math without characters or symbols, there's just no common language... so I don't go over there; the groups are blocked on my end.
On the other hand if religious beliefs are not involved there are some reasonable people that have frequented those groups, but then there's no reason to converse with them in those places.
I don't go there so no problems with locking/hiding anything. If they come here to intrude that could be another problem, but it seems to be quiet on that front at the moment.

(9,356 posts)It was my own fault, since the thread referred to one of the Hol-ey Family who try to run That Other Group.
Another family member was doing the usual lurking/spying in this group, saw the thread, and immediately demanded that the thread be disappeared as a "call out."
In my defense, I didn't think I really called anybody out. In fact, I considered the thread fair use/parody. As I remember, I was just poking a little fun at the gentleman in question, using a parody of his own idiosyncratic posting style.
When I saw the faux-outraged demand for the thread to be removed, I did the usual - laughed.
