Two of the most destructive termite species in the world are swarming together in South Florida. They might mate, forming a hybrid, and that worries the UF/IFAS scientists who found the superswarm.

We do pay for termite protection and inspections, and when you buy a house here, termite clearance is one of the things
houses have to be inspected for.
I have heard they prefer new wood to old, Hope that is true, since we live in a 1958 house.

First, because termites - as yet - cannot eat concrete blocks.
Second - insulation.
My sister lives in an older frame house, and has to get it tented every so often, which I think is bad for her health.
And yes, you cannot sell a house without a termite inspection, although I am not sure if foreclosed houses owned by banks have the same conditions, if they are sold "as is".
I think there are safe termite killers, but I would rather not have to think about termites at all.
Had to treat for termites when I lived in Illinois, so this is certainly not just a Florida problem. Had to have a termite inspection in Illinois, too.
