Related: About this forumA couple of videos from Fermilab on Supersymmetry
In this video, Fermilab's Dr. Don Lincoln describes the principle of supersymmetry in an easy-to-understand way. A theory is supersymmetric if it treats forces and matter on an equal footing. While supersymmetry is an unproven idea, it is popular with particle physics researchers as a possible next step in particle physics. Published on May 21, 2013
Fermilab's Dr. Don Lincoln explains some of the reasons that physicists are so interested in supersymmetry. Supersymmetry can explain the low mass of the Higgs boson, provide a source of dark matter, and make it more likely that the known subatomic forces are really different facets of a single, common, force. kidding of course
Well that was quite heavy for a Saturday afternoon - thanks so much for posting.

Not a week ago that stated supersymetery now seems to have larger and larger holes in it.
Not to say the physics guy who said that has a better theory.
Too bad I can't remember his name.

(27,677 posts)5. The Rise and Fall of Supersymmetry
At the LHC, supersymmetric particles should have been detected by now, if they exist. There are plenty of theorists and experimentalists who are still optimistic about SUSY, but nearly all models that successfully solve the hierarchy problem have been ruled out.
There are no other good solutions to the hierarchy problem that are as satisfying as SUSY. If theres no SUSY, then we have to admit that we have no idea why the masses of the standard model particles have the value that they do.
