(THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP!)
I wont bury the lede triggering anti-Semites is a good thing.
There were anti-Semites at the Chicago Dyke March last Saturday, as there were at the Israel Day Parade in New York a few weeks ago. I have gone to great lengths to distinguish between anti-Semitism and opposition to the Israeli government, and have been called out on it by some old friends whove become quite right-wing on this issue. I have worked for years now with J Street to bring about a fair and equitable two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, and consider myself pro-Palestinian as well as pro-Israeli. What happened in Chicago, in spite of the backtracking of the Dyke March leaders, was anti-Semitism. This was part of their statement:
Chicago Dyke March Collective is a grassroots mobilization and celebration of dyke, queer, bisexual, and transgender resilience. Our priority is to ensure a safer space for those who are most marginalized. We welcome and include people of all identities, but not all ideologies. We believe in creating a space free from oppression, and that involves rejecting racist ideologies that support state violence. We welcome the support we have received from Jewish allies and marchers who are as invested in liberation as we are.
I identify, when asked, as queer, bisexual and trans, am quite resilient, and am offended that they believe theyre celebrating me by excluding me and those like me.

About time someone called out the misuses of progressive values.

(47,470 posts)they do welcome the support of Jewish groups.
Perhaps it is time for many Jewish groups, including "urban" synagogues, to be more selective.

(5,591 posts)The organizers and supporters, mostly queer and trans folks of color, have received countless threats of violence and aggression. Every year the organizers work tirelessly and intentionally to create spaces that are celebratory of queer and trans people, centering queer and trans people of color.
The Chicago Dyke March has been an organization for many years that shows us a glimpse of a world that is possible. The CDM Collective creates a space, even if for just one gorgeous day, where people are seen, loved and celebrated for being queer, trans, gender nonconforming, nonbinary, intersex, black, brown, fat, kinky, undocumented, disabled.
Chicago Dyke March has always been and will always continue to fight for liberation for all, especially queer and trans folks who face further marginalization and discrimination based on their race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, size, gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, culture, immigrant status, spirituality, and ability.

There it is...anti-Semitism. Calling for the removal of Israel. AS soon as one of these assholes says "pinkwashing", I know they are a bigot, misinformed, and a propagandist.

(16,299 posts)Screen capture of photo accompanying Dyke March Chicagos statement justifying its expulsion of Jewish marchers.
(In a textbook example of what we may call Jew-washing, the attempt to remove the moral stain of anti-Semitism through tokenism, Dyke March Chicago placed a statement on their Facebook page from an anti-Zionist Jew. The statement read, in part, I was at Dyke march yesterday and I am an white american (sic) queer disabled Jew. I was welcomed and affirmed there. I am also anti-Zionist )
Dyke march Chicago also posted a photo with their statement rationalizing their exclusion of Jews. It shows a group of people holding the flags of various non-democratic Muslim-majority regimes with homophobic laws they enforce. There is Turkey, for instance, which just a few days ago cancelled the Pride Parade in Istanbul. There are also Mauritania and Egypt, which both outlaw same-sex relations. Amazingly, the people in the photo are even holding the flag of Assads Syria, whose regime is responsible for the deaths of nearly a half-million people in the civil war and whose main regional ally is Iran, which publicly hangs gay men from cranes.

(53,951 posts)...to these shitheads, "there are Jews and then there are, ...". Fill in the blank, but it doesn't start with a "z", though they pretend it does. Now they need a retreat, paid for by others, from their "wonderful day of affirmation" to nurse their hurt feefees. That picture simply reaffirms their actions were about bigotry and anti-Semitism, and NOT about anything else. If the sight of a star of David on a rainbow flag is a trigger, then the one being triggered is a bigot and anyone defending said bigot is also a bigot.

(5,591 posts)I'm sickened to see not more people speaking out against this.
Why is racism and bigotry towards Jews ignored? When will Jewish Lives Matter?
