An interview with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stopped in its tracks on Wednesday when NPR's Diane Rehm repeatedly pressed the Democratic presidential candidate whether he was a citizen of Israel.
"Senator, you have dual citizenship with Israel," Rehm said during the interview on her nationally broadcast show based on station WAMU.
"Well, no I do not have dual citizenship with Israel," Sanders, who is Jewish, interjected. "I'm an American. I don't know where that question came from. I am an American citizen, and I have visited Israel on a couple of occasions. I'm an American citizen, period."
Rehm cited "a list we have gotten" at NPR that said Sanders was "on that list."

(19,288 posts)I'm headed to the link. I really respect Bernie. I'd love to hear more of his views about the I/P problems and where the US fits into it.
I love it that he is Jewish. Would he be our first Jewish president? That would be so cool. Such good heritage to ensure his intellect is sharp. No wonder he is so brilliant. Please forgive my sterotyping but I believe certain sterotypes are true.
Off to that link.

(3,051 posts)Used to be the favorite of anti-Catholics and anti-Semites, now really just anti-Semites.
I remember getting pressed on this issue every 5 years or so when my security clearance was up for renewal.
Very, very annoying. Went ballistic every time for the last 20 years with the government.
I expect better from NPR.

What if Al Franken ever decide to run? Will he be questioned?
And this is why it is anti-semitic. Only Jews would be asked about their support of Israel, about dual citizenship. Never mind that all the Republican candidates are falling over each other declaring their support for Israel. Except, perhaps, Rand Paul.
Oh, and one would think that had Sanders been a citizen of Israel, he would have denounced it before running, just as Cruz has done with his Canadian citizenship.
