Anti-Semitism relates to Jews, not Semites. If you can't understand this simple concept, or proceed to, what I am viewing, mock anti-Semitism, then you will not be allowed to continue to post here. This is a "safe space" for Jews, those who are allies, and those interested in learning about Jews and Jewish history/heritage.

As one of the hosts for this group, this will not be allowed to continue.

No harm was meant....but no one addressed my poin. RwNJs are in control of Isreali government....am I wrong? Doubtful when the head of Isreali government is working with the Republicans to destabilize our response to ME policy. And I am not a "anti-semite" when I recognize Jews and Palestinians as both Semites.

an·ti-Sem·i·tism

/ˌan(t)ēˈseməˌtizəm/

noun

noun: antisemitism

hostility to or prejudice against Jews.

I also suggest you read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism While it is "wiki" it will do in a pinch.

Note, it does not say "Semites." Just as "inflammable" means "capable of being set on fire and of burning quickly" despite the fact the prefix "in-" almost always indicates "not", the meaning of the word does not 'shift' because of a linguistic irregularity.

As to your point, yes, your comments are still bigoted, as well as short-sighted. Despite the fact that many of the ruling coalition in Israel are Jews (RW or not), it is inappropriate to refer to them that way. Call them what they are "Israelis." Would you say "Fuck the Blacks" meaning "the RW black leaders of Uganda?" Or would you say "Fuck the Ugandan government!"? Furthermore, Baker wasn't referring to RW Israelis, he was referring to AMERICAN Jews.

No, of course I didn't. It is irrelevant that some Palestinians are also Semitic, as are most Arabs. Anti-Semitism has nothing to do with "Semites" other than the ignorance of the creator of the word and those who keep trying to redefine it.

I hate RWNJ Semites who control the Isreali Parliment (ie Likud). I think there is a substantial population of LW semites who disagree with the politics that are hurting Isreal and underminig our government by working with Republicans to subvert our government. Is that reasonable?

Seems a handful haven't a clue as to what anti-Semitism is or isn't. Some will scold people like King who recently "told" Jews they weren't really Jews if they are democrats (something to that effect), yet they feel not a twinge of embarrassment when they do the exact same thing! Not too long ago, another poster told a Jewish poster she was "playing the anti-Semitism card" as well in a situation which didn't warrant it as it (the story) was about anti-Semitism.

On the plus side, many people were upset/appalled by the poster who called Netanyahu a "shylock." Oh, and if you are passing EarlG in the hallway, give him a high five, as he sent the person who made that comment, then double-downed on it, packing!

While a Semite is not necessarily a Jew, an anti-Semite is someone who hates Jews specifically.

I can understand how people who are not Jewish could be confused by this asymmetry of terms.

Especially when they happen to be Semites but not Jews.

In my own case through DNA testing I've determined that my ancestral male line is Semitic.

But religion cannot be determined by DNA tests. All I know is that my male ancestors originated in the Fertile Crescent.

This makes me distant kin to Sephardic Jews and to Palestinians to the same degree.

I hold ill will against no one.

Especially my distant kin.

It is for that reason, I will explain it. However, when I see people digging in their heels that it means 'prejudice against Semites,' then it is clear they are either bigots and/or have an agenda. It isn't as common, but I have actually seen similar "arguments" in regards to "homophobia." So, would you be as 'forgiving' to someone who claims homophobia isn't[ really prejudice and/or hate against gay people, but "fear of sameness?" (And in case you think I am being flippant, I have actually seen that argument...HERE!)

Seems some try to be cute about it and simply say "F the Js"...fortunately 6 DU'ers understood what he was saying and the post was hidden. Of course, the speculation is that the person was actually a "Likudnik" trying to make others look bad, but might be someone who is an anti-Semite. Always looking to blame the Jews...it's a pastime for some. Sometimes, others just look for "alternative" reasons for anti-Semitism...like they did here. Then there are those who think anti-Semitism is nothing more than Nazis and Israel.

that the administrators established a separate forum to discuss Israel and the Palestinians.

You don't want to go there if you do support Israel. The hateful messages are so strong, the only "solace" is that the hatred is expressed by keyboard clicking and not in the streets. Or in synagogues and Jewish museums.

There are several brave souls with strong stomachs who do venture there and I admire them. They set the record straight, they cite balanced or pro-Israel stories. The rule there is that only original published story can be posted to start a thread. Comments, however, are another matter.
