The recent BBC history podcast series was on the Yom Kippur war in Oct 1973

I honestly do not think the attack during Sukkot was by chance

October 1973: The war that changed everything

If I hazard a guess, this is the work of Iran, by stint of Russia. Pull attention away from Ukraine. I hope Ukraine is shoring up for a very nasty attack.

It will be interesting to see how fast attacks against Jews in the US and Europe start.

It's actually a separate holiday, the day after Sukkot, but many consider it to be the end of Sukkot, although it doesn't really matter. It's a Jewish holiday and the Sabbath!
Damn Hamas for this!

Israelis are prepared to defend and protect, as they must always be.

But this is the season of our rejoicing, and there were talks going on, so for Hamas to attack at this time is both surprising and yet to be expected.

We remember the Yom Kippur war, when they attacked. Each time they attack, they're the ones who lose! Damn terrorists. My inclination is to show no mercy, take no prisoners, and to stop them and punish them, whatever it takes. This applies to all terrorists, here and abroad.

Ancient Jewish communities were often attacked on Shabbat, until the Jewish leaders determined they needed to have a defense force prepared to defend against these attacks.

When Israel was attacked in 1967, the 6 day war, the attackers lost much of the land they'd been granted and they've been trying to get it back and destroy Israel for over 50 years. I refer to they as the militant Palestinians and Arabs, the terrorists.

Thanks for sharing this look back, 50 years ago!
