Mysterious Event at My House

On Thursday night I went out my front entryway to get something from outside. At that time I did not notice anything unusual in my entryway. I came back in and locked the screen door and front door behind me, as is my custom.

The next day I opened the door and there was soil on the floor of the entry. The entry is a little glass/wood structure, probably about 5' x 4'.

The soil was spread out evenly and part of it was on the front door mat. It was primarily in the right hand corner of the entry. In it were little stones and even the top of a milk jug.

The doors are always kept locked, even the screen door. I opened the door and the soil was a bit piled up to the door, indicating that the soil had been placed there from the inside, not the outside.

I was puzzled, so I asked my spouse about it. He knows nothing. I called two other friends who have access to my house and neither know anything about it.

One friend came over to look at it and said that obviously some soil had fallen out of a potted plant. The only problem with that theory is that there are no potted plants in the house. Everything is outside now.

There is a small windowbox-type arrangement, but it has been kept in the entry way. It was examined and nothing about it was disturbed. This amount of soil could not have fallen out of it. All roots and everything about this planting show that this could not be the source of the potting soil on the floor.

I considered an animal dragging it in, but how? And why? There is no place a little animal could gain entrance there.

A couple nights before this happened, I was reading a magazine that told about a man in England to whom oddball objects appeared. It happened after his wife's death. I looked for the story and can't find it, but I'll look again and post back about this.

Also, I'll take pics of the soil in the entryway.

There have been numerous ghost sightings, etc. here, so it wouldn't surprise me if this were paranormal. Not saying it is, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Yeah, pictures would be good. Did you examine it closely for paw prints before anyone had a chance to walk on it?

Last night.

I got up this a.m. and was heading for the kitchen to get a cup of coffee. Wrapped up in my big white terrycloth robe, I had the nerve to open the front door to brace the chilly autumn air. I looked down and there was a fresh supply of soil dragged into my entryway.

This time it was an amount the same as the original but this soil was clean, as opposed to the other, which had some rocks, bottle caps, etc., in it. It was evened out and on the right hand side of the entry way, spread all the way to the inside front door.

Again, I called my friends and they came over to look at it. We took the things out of the entry way to see if there was a hole or something we hadn't spotted before, but no, nothing.

So the soil first appeared the night of Oct. 17 and then more on Oct. 21, four nights later.

Can't find my camera, so no pic for now but I haven't cleaned it up as I still intend to get a pic and post it.

After class, I had a little time to talk to my student who is a seer. I told her the story. She was intrigued. Said she would think on it.

But without a doubt, this soil came from someone depositing it from the inside of the house. And there is no soil on the inside of the house.

So it's still a mystery.

The lighter colored soil is dryer. The newer stuff is darker and to the right.

Sorry about the cats. They regard the entry way as their job site. It has birdseed stored in it and they are waiting for that mousie boy to show up to break into the birdseed bag.

Also, you can't tell it from the photos, but the new stuff is all clean soil. The first stuff that came in had debris in it.

but look at that innocent face in the first picture. That one clearly knows "something." lol What a cutie. In that pic is also looks like there's a gap between the door and the floor, but I'm guessing that's not actually the case, right? I'll show this to some of my friends, see if they feel anything about it.

is Fortean Times. It's a British magazine about odd things in the world, and worth reading the online version. I don't know if they've archived it, or if you have to pay a subscription to search, but you can at least start there.

The next thing to consider are the various earth-based beings of legend and lore. I only have a book as a source, so I don't know about online places to search.

And yes, it also sounds paranormal. Good luck discovering the source. I'm intrigued, too!

Hermetic, Thanks, she is a cutie and a lover, too. Quite the little lap cat. Totally a housecat; eschews the outdoors.

What you're seeing is some gold-colored flashing. There actually is a tiny gap under the door, but you can't see it in these pics.

Kentauros, I love Fortean Times! Read it every month and have it going back maybe 18 months, ever since I discovered it. In fact, that is where I read about that story about the man whose wife died and then all sorts of odd objects started showing up in his house.

I would be so enchanted if it were the faerie folk!! I have had all kinds of paranormal experiences but none with faeries and I think I'm about due for one. I'm going to check out that book and thank you so much for the recommend.

Well, I cleaned it up this a.m. It filled an entire grocery store plastic shopping bag. It's nice soil, so I'll take it up to my garden.

did you check your garden to see if any of the soil has been disturbed or dug up?

it's pretty weird
i'm a big believer in ghostie signs and messages (i've had countless ones from my mom since she passed--various types of signs)

have you lost anyone who would possibly be giving you some sort of message or sign with this--?

i know it sounds odd but my mom and i had a running joke about how she liked to clip her bills & mail together with a large silver paper clip and she only had a couple left. she'd give me her bills to mail and tell me to be sure i gave her that paper clip back to her. sometimes i'd tease her and tell her i accidentally mailed it. (oh no!) then i'd give it back to her, we'd laugh and make smart ass comments about it. it was one of those dumb little things that we kept ourselves amused with. when she died i started finding them in random places--not in the house but in places outside the house such as parking lots, sidewalks, floors of stores, on a stage, on a booth seat at a restaurant, or a chair, elevator, etc. i found quite a few the first two years, and even some the third year. maybe only one or two this last year.

i never noticed them anywhere before. pennies yes. occasional nickels and dimes yes. but big silver paper clips? um...no--not that i ever noticed. but when i'd ask her to give me a sign sometimes those paper clips would be the sign she was giving me. she kept the couple she had on the corner of her dresser. so when i started finding them i'd bring them home and put them on her dresser. there is quite a few there now. (not the plastic, colored ones, not the small silver ones--just the large ones. i'm gonna go count them....32! plus one large blue one--blue was her favorite color so i counted that one as a sign.)

anyway, my point is--people would think a rainbow could be a sign, or a bird on a windowsill, a butterfly, or a specific type of flower blooming maybe in cold weather, etc. (and i've had other types of signs as well) but who would ever think large silver paper clips would be a sign? (i would because it was, like i said, a running joke between me & her for several years.) so i'm wondering if what's happening with you could be some sort of sign from someone you knew.

just a thought to add to your mystery.

9. update
Sat Nov 9, 2013, 12:47 PM
Nov 2013

I wanted to provide an update and respond to orleans' thoughts.

No more soil in the entry way. However, there was one other event that happened that same week which was rather mysterious.

orleans, I do think it could be one of my helpful relatives. I think the message was conceptual. What it was saying was not "put soil in the entryway" but "find and confine a soil-like material to keep the mice out." Yes, I did check all over the property to see if any soil was dug up, but there wasn't any such place. I'm in close touch with my garden, so I'd have noticed right away.

I have some sand and when I get a few minutes, I intend to sew up a couple cloth tubes, fill them with the sand, and use them to block out any drafts from the bottom of the door and the brick floor. This is an entryway where there is another door into the house, but with three cats, I don't worry about the mice coming in the house.

I think I have a full complement of relatives who are helping out right now. Four great-aunts, two sets of grandparents, an uncle, and a parent. Long story short, but I'm working on a project for an elderly relative and I "feel" their support. I also sometimes have messages pop into my head as this project moves along. Sometimes these messages are in terms I would never use, but which one of my relatives might.

I got a chuckle out of your interactions with your mom. It's those very personal things that no one knows about--like the paper clip--that make this a "know," not just a "could be." Thirty-two clips!

Thanks for sharing your story. It made me smile, in addition to being very touching.

OK, here's the other odd incident that happened the week the soil appeared in the entryway.

I had a backed up drain in my bathroom. Since my house was formerly owned by a plumbing contractor, I have more sinks and bathrooms in this place than I know what to do with. I didn't have time to clear out this particular sink, so I was using other ones. There was water in the sink and it went for days and days and didn't move an inch.

I keep a strainer in every sink drain. This prevents hair and the like from going into the drains.

One morning I left the bath and again noted how the water hadn't drained a bit. Only 20" later I returned and there was no water at all in the sink. How odd, after days and days of it not moving at all. And oddest of all, the strainer had been taken out and put on the window sill next to the sink.

If this was a spirit, it didn't solve the plugged up sink problem, but somehow it did take care of the standing water problem!

Oh and p.s. there was no one else in the house at the time.

the plumber and the sink strainer on windowsill is interesting. maybe you should ask him for a little help as soon as there is a problem. who knows? maybe you'll get the help you need if he still cares about all these sinks in the house. (lol!--wouldn't that be nice actually)

another interesting thing you said:
"I also sometimes have messages pop into my head as this project moves along. Sometimes these messages are in terms I would never use, but which one of my relatives might. "

i know EXACTLY what you mean. i get that with my mom A LOT. sadly not as frequently as the first two or three years, but it still happens. a lot.

So I think it has to be someone else. Like somebody in my family. I have a lot of relatives who have crossed over: my dad, my uncle, and four great aunts in addition to grandparents.

But thanks for the suggestion!

I am working on a project now for an elderly aunt for whom I am the trustee. It is a tough project, requiring endless amounts of patience, and a high level of writing/research skills. It involves a lot of money, too, and I feel the encouragement of my crossed-over relatives, as well as my aunt's husband. It has been very time consuming and my teaching work, union work, and indoor/outdoor house work has suffered terribly. I am close to done, though.

One day I clearly heard my dad express what he would do with a part of the project. It was funny and it made me laugh. It was "so" my dad.

Then, just a couple of days ago, I was standing in my kitchen cleaning up when I distinctly heard a voice say, "I'm on the team, too." Well, it my aunt's "boyfriend" that she had after her husband died!

I just loved it that he had to let me know he was "on the team," too. I told my aunt this story and she laughed uproariously. Of course "Roy" would be on the team. He was always a giver and a helper.

He was a highly efficacious individual when he was here on earth, so I imagine he is quite effective with his input although at this point it's hard to tell who steers me to what.

It is quite amazing, though, as I work on this project how I see things I'd have never seen had I not embarked on it in quite this way. When I am through, I may not only bring justice to my aunt, but to many other elderly ladies, too.
