Anti-abortion priests demand Pelosi renounce Catholicism

http://thehill.com/blogs/healthwatch/abortion/306799-anti-abortion-priests-demand-pelosi-renounce-catholicism

A national organization of Catholic priests denounced House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and told her to give up her Catholic faith because she supports abortion rights.

In an open letter to Pelosi, the group Priests for Life accused the House's top Democrat of making a "mockery of the Catholic faith."

"Whatever Catholic faith you claim to respect and practice, it is not the faith that the Catholic Church teaches," wrote Priests for Life National Director Fr. Frank Pavone.

"For decades you have gotten away with betraying and misrepresenting the Catholic faith as well as the responsibilities of public office. We have had enough of it. Either exercise your duties as a public servant and a Catholic, or have the honesty to formally renounce them," he wrote.

Oh the standard apologist line is that he already excommunicated himself because he wasn't following "official" church teachings. If that's what it takes, I have to wonder why the RCC went to the trouble of formally excommunicating all these people who also presumably excommunicated themselves by their actions. I guess formal excommunication is only necessary for serious crimes like ordaining a bishop without the approval of the pope, and not things like, oh, genocide.

like other religions. I'm the 4th of 6 kids and I'm 70, so we're older. There are children, grandchildren, & ggrandchildren. Being in a very large RC family, all, with the exception of one person & his wife, believe there should be a choice. All, except that one, believe there should be fewer abortions with the availability of wide spread sex education and availability of birth control. All are Democratic, except for that one. Surprise! That one is obnoxious also, again not surprising. We all believe in the social welfare of all Americans, but that one believes that the poor and unemployed are lazy. BTW we all grew up poor, but that one has amassed a small fortune through marriage. Can you spot the republican? I know there are millions of families who share these same "family values". We don't pay any attention to those evangelicals whether catholic or any other religion. That's my story.

If you look at their website you would not be so surprised.

Their theology does not support their rhetoric. Opposing the criminalization of abortion does not negate the view that it is the killing of a human, which is the doctrine.

I don't recall Pelosi anywhere approving abortion per se.

so they could just revert the definition back to "life begins as birth" and stop this part of the war on women.

though if they keep this sort of thing up, they will sabotage the Catholic Church more than any 'hardline Protestant' or 'militant atheist' could ever dream of doing.
