(CNN) A Catholic college in Ohio has apparently become the nations first to drop its health care plan because it opposes parts of the federal health care law signed by President Barack Obama.
The Franciscan University of Steubenville posted on its website last week that it is discontinuing its health care plan.
The Obama Administration has mandated that all health insurance plans must cover womens health services including contraception, sterilization, and abortion-causing medications as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the university says.
We will not participate in a plan that requires us to violate the consistent teachings of the Catholic Church on the sacredness of human life, the statement says.

This is a prticularly conservative, politically and doctrinally, university. My guess is this will be the first of several such announcments. The real news will be when the first Catholic hospital announces its closing.

(6,960 posts)So, it can help train young people to kill other human beings in future American wars ... but is won't violate its "teachings" by providing medical contraceptives to non-Catholic staff/students?
I am still perplexed that anyone can be a 'liberal' Catholic -- the Roman church is authoritarian and patriarchal, it doesn't care whether an individual member agrees with them or not. As long as they can be counted as a member, they have tacit consent to continue doing the kinds of things they have been doing (like genocide) for a couple thousand years.

I for one would laugh in their face before I made an ugly scene, if any potential employer expected me to adhere to their dogma. Then I'd sue their bigoted asses off for discrimination. In fact, maybe I should make a point of applying for those kinds of jobs. I see a veritable cottage market developing out of this.

This has nothing to do with women's reproductive services and everything to do with $$.
Really hypocritical.
