The 70-year-old rocker was warned by doctors to quit drinking or die 37 years ago, when he woke up throwing up blood and was taken to hospital.
He recalled: "Everything that could go wrong was shutting down inside of me.
"I was drinking with Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix and trying to keep up with Keith Moon and they all died at 27."
The shock rocker insists his faith is compatible with his career.
He said: "There's nothing in Christianity that says I can't be a rock star. People have a very warped view of Christianity. They think it's all very precise and we never do wrong and we're praying all day and we're right-wing. It has nothing to do with that. It has to do with a one-on-one relationship with Jesus Christ."
And the musician has taken inspiration from late actor Alan Rickman for his performance.
He explained: "When I first heard about it, I thought Alan Rickman -- that condescending sort of arrogant character, and I kind of fashioned what I would do after what I thought Alan Rickman would do if he were alive."

(2,297 posts)Caiaphas does mention that Jesus could touch off a war with his actions (as they see them). They could have done everyone a favor by arresting Simon instead!
I agree that they also have darker reasons like maintaining their own supremacy. If anyone sinks to Herod's level in my mind, it's those two. That said, at least they are being practical whereas Herod is just a dick.

(9,146 posts)was an Alice Cooper concert in February of that year. (I was in radio -- one of the perks was free concert tickets.) He had just come out of rehab, and it was by far the best stage show (as oppose to the music) at a concert I have ever seen.

(15,377 posts)Solely because he befriended Groucho Marx in the early 70s and would go over to his house and watch old movies with him until Groucho fell asleep. In return, Groucho would take his buddies to see Alice, and they would enjoy it immensely because as George Burns pointed out, he was doing a lot of stuff vaudevillians did back in the day - at the time, his show consisted of different effects put together under supervision of James "The Amazing" Randi, who served as executioner when Alice got his head chopped off (Burns remarked it would have been nice to see doves fly out of the basket his head went into like a magician did in the old days).

So I did a little checking.
Do you have any progressive Christians you admire or are they all conservatives?
The original shock-rocker is a born-again Christian who has claimed to ping-pong between the two main parties based on the candidates running for office, but reportedly supported George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004 and referred to Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin a "breath of fresh air" in 2008. As for the most recent election, he reportedly said in an interview last year that he thought Trump was a "doer, he's not a sayer, he's a doer. I think that's what the American public are looking at."
So his Christian faith also allows him to support War Criminals and loathsome pieces of shit.

He is a Republican, and you want to promte him here as a man we should admire.
No thanks.

Besides, when I read the list of people who are supporting Kerry, if I wasn't already a Bush supporter, I would have immediately switched. Linda Ronstadt? Don Henley? Geez, that's a good reason right there to vote for Bush."
Direct quote about Palin:
I think she's totally a breath of fresh air. When they say she has no experience, maybe that's what Washington needs.
But I am not surprised you admire him.
I guess his relugion is more important to you than his politics.

(13,867 posts)I have several friends who have sworn off alcohol for health reasons and they are all non-believers.
Having a GOP Trump supporter like Cooper tell me religion helped him decide to stay alive instead of drinking himself to death doesnt indicate anything about the the validity or the usefulness of religion.
