Remarried couples should abstain from sex, Philadelphia Catholic church says

Last edited Wed Jul 6, 2016, 11:11 AM - Edit history (1)

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jul/06/philadelphia-catholic-church-rules-divorce-gay-sex

Catholics in Philadelphia who are divorced and civilly remarried will be welcome to accept Holy Communion – as long as they abstain from sex and live out their relationships like “brother and sister”.

New guidelines published by the conservative archbishop of Philadelphia this month also called on priests within the archdiocese to help Catholics who are attracted to people of the same sex and “find chastity very difficult”, saying such individuals should be advised to frequently seek penance. Because same-sex attraction takes “diverse forms”, the archdiocese also said that some people can still live out a vocation of heterosexual marriage with children, notwithstanding “some degree of same-sex attraction”.

Ain't that progressive?!? Feel free to divorce and remarry, just don't have sex. Gay? Marry someone of the opposite sex and don't act on your natural sexuality. The RCC continues to insist on absolute control over its members' sex lives. Creepy as hell.

Many a Catholic has gone up the church aisle & got Holy Communion despite not following the strictures of the Church. They will consult their own consciences, same as they do with taking birth control. This is just a big "Yeah, okay, archbishop, whatever."

said not to "marry" a divorced woman. The Church seems to think he said not to "sex up" a divorced woman.

If the divorce wasn't valid, then you're still really married to the person you formally divorced. Have sex, it's adultery.

If you move in with somebody else, male or female, then without sex it's not illicit. You're special roommates.

You can be outraged over this instance or that situation, but it's really the same stricture that's at issue. It's not a hard thing to reason through, but it's entirely deductive logic from a fairly small number of precepts and entirely dismissive of what individuals want. Liking something isn't necessary for compliance. Western thinking has run the gamut from "salvation by works" to the current "salvation without works." Very non-catechism.

Not sure what to make of the whole "adultery in your heart" business in this regard. But the teaching is consistent: The teaching is that without being in a proper marriage, sex is wrong.

He just pulls this manure out of his ass. They've been talking about sex, gays and abortion for 35 years while, according to Steven Hawking, greed is destroying the world.

Greed! When will these false profits start preaching the Bible and stop this garbage?

That they've left this one alone, yet still defend and deflect against the pedophilia, misogyny, and cover-ups speaks volumes about their character.
