Hillary Clinton's religious record should dispel the popular skepticism about her faith.

Back during the 1992 campaign, more attention focused on Hillary Clinton's hair than on her faith. Yet when I interviewed people then about the potential first lady, anecdotes emerged that began to paint a portrait of someone inspired and motivated by her beliefs.
She sometimes carried a Bible in her pocketbook and often had favorite prayers at hand. She attended church regularly. She may not have blared her faith from the rooftops, but it was there for anyone to see if interested.
It isn't surprising that as early as page 21 of her 2003 memoir "Living History," she writes: "My active involvement in the first United Methodist Church of Park Ridge opened my eyes and heart to the needs of others and helped instill a sense of social responsibility rooted in my faith."
What is surprising is to see how an image of Clinton as less religious endures. Donald Trump seized on this when he spouted off June 21, saying: "we don't know anything about Hillary in terms of religion."

(15,189 posts)I don't like religion in my government. It doesn't belong there. I'm still hoping for an Atheist President some day. Too bad there aren't any this time around.
