No momentum from no-hitter as Giants get shut down by Reds
What killjoys, those Reds, rolling into San Francisco with their hot streak, potent and healthy lineup and all those fantastic pitchers.
Playing shorthanded, and with an offense that has cooled considerably, the Giants could not enjoy a Timmy bounce and beat the Reds Thursday night. Instead, they lost 3-1 and saw their once-fat National League West lead cut to two games.
One night after Tim Lincecum's no-hitter, there was one special moment for the Giants. First baseman Adam Duvall, starting in place of an ill Michael Morse, homered off Mike Leake for his first hit, in his major-league debut, the first Giant to do that since Brett Pill in 2011.
Duvall also ended the game by lining out against 100-mph man Aroldis Chapman. Duvall's night was one nice chapter in a story that is turning into a gothic horror tale for the Giants.
