(12,698 posts)It is nationalistic b.s. I find it extremely offensive that they trot out some active duty soldier that we all must stand up and clap for. If the MLB, NFL, etc., care so much about the active duty folks, why arent they on the front lines helping vets? Additionally, this was all set in motion by the military, with our tax dollars. Meh.

(4,228 posts)trotted out 4 sets of parents who had lost sons in Iraq. We all respect the military but why does this have to be showcased at all these sporting events? I lost a brother to Vietnam and I would not have wanted my parents to be put on display at a football game.

(23,366 posts)But, it seems ridiculous to me that its okayed at baseball, football, hockey, basketball etc games. Ive never understood it. Further, my kiddo is a baseball player and when he was younger and played Little League, the pledge those kids have to say bugged me too...I trust in god, I love my country...

understood why they do this. Do other countries play their national anthem before sporting events? I can understand playing it when they have a veterans event or 4th of July or Veterans Day.
