It's tough for Detroit losing the best mind in hockey with Mike Babcock's departure last season. I think Babcock saw a better rebuild opportunity in Toronto with their depth of young talent. Detroit's road back to the Stanley Cup will likely be much longer.

(27,850 posts)Babcock only got one cup with the Wings. Once Lidstrom left, it was clear how much he'd been carrying the team, too. Babs was running on fumes the last couple of years. Also, I think he's no more than the second-best mind in hockey, because Scotty Bowman is still involved!
