Royals finalize deal for ace Cueto with Reds
Johnny Cueto is heading to Kansas City.
One day after the Reds ace was almost dealt to the Royals in advance of his dominant start against the Rockies, the two teams agreed to a deal that was officially announced on Sunday afternoon. In exchange for Cueto, the Royals traded left-handers Brandon Finnegan,
John Lamb and Cody Reed to Cincinnati.
Cueto, 29, is 7-6 with a 2.62 ERA in 19 starts this season and can be a free agent following the season. The Royals will not be able to extend him a qualifying offer because he's been traded during the season. In his eighth big league season -- all with the Reds -- Cueto has a 92-63 career mark with a 3.21 ERA.
