(7,429 posts)Those 2 are 2 of the most dramatic guys I've ever seen. Or Diaw every time a foul was called on him he looked around like he was in shock.
The only reason the Spurs are ahead right now is great play by Danny Green who has hit more 3s than anyone I have ver seen. It's a thing of beauty.
But to be honest they haven't won anything yet. The series is back in Miami and that is where the Heat will take over completely.

(222 posts)I don't care about NBA finals too much. I watch them when I can because I like basketball. Something needs to be done to let small market teams compete. I'm a Blazer fan and there is no way we can get top-dollar free agent. Probably the same in lots of cities. I don't want a league of nothing but NY, Miami, AND LA.

(12,336 posts)During the Pacers-Heat series someone held up a sign which said, "Built, not bought" referring to the Pacers. That was a great sign and stated the major problem in the NBA.
The Timberwolves, Kings, Bucks, etc. simply cannot compete with the big money teams. And ESPN almost never shows anyone but Boston, LA, Miami, and sometimes San Antonio.

(9,527 posts)Yes it's "easier" to buy a team like Miami or Boston did. But that creates a relatively small window of time when a championship can be won. Boston traded for a couple of aging stars, won a championship, but it's also put them in a position to have to rebuild a few years later.
Look at how long the Spurs have been competing for a championship with players they drafted or traded for. They don't bring in expensive free agents. Yes they got lucky to get Tim Duncan, but they also drafted Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli and a host of other less well-known players who fit into their system.
What I think is ruining the NBA is the me-first, get on Sportcenter attitude that the Heat embrace. Dwayne Wade and LeBron James love to get steals and make flashy dunks which get them on the highlight reels, but as is being repeatedly shown in this series, they are bad at basic defense. There's a reason that Danny Green keeps getting open for 3 point shots. The Heat as a team lack the discipline to stay home because they want to get steals and get their highlights because it's "cool". Take in game 2 when LeBron got a big block, I believe on Tiago Splitter, and instead of getting down the court on the fast break he stood and stared out at the crowd to celebrate. It shows LeBron's lack of discipline and willingness to do the right thing even if it's "pointless". The Spurs on the other hand, were able to force LeBron to miss a couple of dunks in the last game by hustling back on turnovers that other teams would have given up on.
Football has the same problem with defenders going for big flashy hits instead of wrapping up or that guy on the Eagles who dropped the ball just short of the end zone because he was showing off.

(29,322 posts)but Lebron is easily one of the best defenders in the league if not the best.
He allows .84 points per possession which is great. The Heat as team are 5th in the league at .86 PPP.
In individual defensive sets he holds opponents to 37.6% percent shooting.
He is 7th in points allowed per post-up .58
He is 3rd in guarding the roll man in a pick-and-roll at .50.
The Heat's overall defense was better last season but they're still one of the best in the league. Spurs are one of the highest scoring offenses so it is expected they'd have some trouble there.

No team in the NBA has been as successful in road closeout games.
According to ESPN.coms Stats & Information twitter feed, the Spurs are 14-2 in potential closeout games on the road since the 2002-03 season, an .875 winning percentage.
The rest of the league is 61-75 during that span for a .449 winning percentage.

(73,692 posts)I don't think Miami has played nearly as good as they are capable of. They need to be near that level to bring about Game 7.
I like both teams; each has some outstanding athletes -- obviously -- as well as good people.

(73,692 posts)Outstanding. Both teams played well enough that, at several points, I thought they would win. I liked that it went into overtime.
Can't wait until Thursday. May the best team win!

(39,393 posts)And very tough to recover from. Basically, make your foul shots in the last minute and you win that game if you're the Spurs.
Ginoboli was really awful the whole game, which is why he didn't get that call. Rough justice, but it was fair.
