Report: Dez Bryant arrested after attacking his mother

We've certainly had quite the little parade of arrests through this NFL offseason, but few are as disturbing as this: On Monday, Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant was arrested on charges of misdemeanor domestic violence, which stemmed from an incident that happened last Saturday. Bryant turned himself in to the DeSoto (Texas) police department after hearing of the charges, and was released from custody after posting $1,500 bail. However, and as first reported by Rebecca Lopez of WFAA-TV, the underlying reasons for Bryant's arrest should give serious pause.

"Desoto police say Dez Bryant assaulted his mother," Lopez wrote on her Twitter account. "Slapped her across the face and pulled her hair. Dez Bryant's mother says she had pain and swelling as a result of injuries according to a police report. Police report says Bryant's mother had asked him to leave when he allegedly assaulted her."

I've disliked Bryant for a while now, but this is a new low for him. UGH.

1. I think they'd cut him if he wasn't signed through 2014 ...

unless there's a clause in his contract for this type of thing. Suspension may be more likely.

Slapping his own mother... wow.

but unsure

According to the incident report, Bryant became angry when his mother asked him to leave her home during an argument Saturday afternoon. Initially, at a Tuesday news conference, Smith said Bryant slapped his mother in the face, but the police report, which was released later Tuesday, clarified that Bryant allegedly grabbed her by her T-shirt and hair and "hit her across the face with his ball cap."

Angela Bryant, whose T-shirt and bra were allegedly torn during the incident, indicated on a 911 call that this was not the first time she was assaulted by her son.

<snip>

Officers who responded to the 911 call from Bryant's mother did not observe any injuries, and she did not complain of pain at the time, according to the report. On Monday, after officers contacted Bryant's mother at her home, the report states that she said she had pain in her wrists, hands and arms. Officers observed swelling around her wrists at that time, according to the report.

After being transported to the DeSoto police department, Angela Bryant, 37, provided a written statement detailing the alleged assault. According to the report, she stated that Dez Bryant repeatedly struck her in the hands and wrists. Officers observed bruising on both arms. She also complained that her chest was sore from Bryant pushing her.

4. Swelling usually doesn't show up until 24 hours later...

It would make sense that she wouldn't show any signs when the police showed up...also, the pain often shows up later, too.

I'm not defending whatever happened. I think it's important to have correct information and was pointing out that the "slapping" may have been incorrectly reported.

I emphasize may because it does read that way but I think it needs to be clarified that the hat was on his head or in his hand when that happened.

Again, not defending whatever happened.

11. Dez Bryant, mom address incident

DALLAS -- In a sign of solidarity, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was joined by his mother, Angela Bryant, at a brief news conference on Tuesday to stress that while there may have been an incident last week, no family violence occurred.

Neither Bryant nor his mother took questions regarding the Class A misdemeanor charge filed by DeSoto police. Instead, a statement was released and read aloud by their attorney, Texas state senator Royce Wst.

"Did a family disagreement occur? Yes," West said in the statement. "Did Dez Bryant commit family violence against his mother? No."

<snip>

A Dallas County district attorney's spokeswoman said the case filed by DeSoto Police against Bryant includes an affidavit of non-prosecution from the complainant. The affidavit means the complaint doesn't want to proceed.

The 5th paragraph I wanted to post stated that the DA is still reviewing the case to determine to file charges.

Interesting though considering 9-11 call. It is not uncommon for close ones to make outrageous accusations while angry. Also, it is not unusual for close ones to back down from initial claims that are true to avoid putting a loved one through the legal process. So this doesn't say it didn't happen but it also doesn't say it did happen. It'll be interesting what the DA decides to do but prosecution would be difficult w/o testimony or testimony that claims nothing physical or illegal took place.

no. To your question.

I keep my sound on mute unless I have headphones and since my current set is broken I keep it on mute all times. The sound quality is very poor on this PC(without headphones) and I hate listening to my computer make boot-up noise and unsolicited noise such as tacky websites & auto-load standard video websites such as ESPN.com.

Sorry for all that, I didn't because I rarely use my PC to make sounds, especially w/ no headphones. So I'm the last person qualified to speculate on how she came across during the 9/11 call.

Occasionally, if there is something on DU that I really want to listen to, I will turn the sound on.

You have no idea what you are missing.

He was going to release Dez Bryant until Jerry Junior showed him the depth chart for his position.
