Rest high on that Mountain (Scott 1959-2022)/Good times in Lake George, NY

Next week, Prospect Mountain opens.
At least once a year you and I
liked to take the convertible and
drive up Veterans Memorial Highway,
stop at each pull off and check out the scenery.
We never got a chance to ride the trike.

Two years ago when my cat Joe died,
we placed a memorial near the top,
just off the trail, overlooking the lake.
Now, alone, I will lay your plaque
with a soft prayer for
“the Lord your soul to take”.

It seems like just yesterday
we were in Lake George,
cycling, parasailing, and floating,
serene, in a hot air balloon.
Shuffleboard at the Tap Room
(laughing when you sent the puck flying off the table).
A drink and lunch at The Olde Log Inn
(gregarious and friendly, you preferred to eat at the bar
if stools were available).

We stayed at Ft. William Henry so often
that we befriended Eric, the bartender.
I wonder if he’s still there.

Midway to Lake George
is the Conklingville Dam parking area,
our usual stop,
I will raise a beer and salute you, Scott.

On your 110 acres, your ashes are scattered at “The Ridge”
your favorite spot to sit in the sun.
In the words of Vince Gill,
“Go rest high on that mountain.
Your work on earth is done.”

Now I have reason to, and I'll be sure to bring a copy of your lovely poem with me.

Your reply is so nice--thank you! I drove up Prospect a few weeks ago and laid Scott's plaque. It was a beautiful day. And, I did raise that beer at the Conklingville Dam.
