Is anyone doing NaNoWriMo?

I was going to, but I got tied up because I have a major gem show on Veterans Day weekend. I'm done with that for the year and only have the local gallery to worry about (and plenty of things from show stock to put there) so thinking of putting in the time to at least work on something.

I have several books started in various stages of progress:

A story, partially based on true events, about girls brought up in a fundamentalist family whose father molests them. Until one shocking event, none of them knows that he's done it to all of them. The rest of the story deals with the aftermath.

A sci-fi story of sorts about a girl who grows up on a world somewhere and becomes a midwife. It's kind of a socio-cultural study.

Two romances, one about the reunion of high school sweethearts, the other about a woman and her new next door neighbor who is the single father of three adopted sons. (The first is a reworking of something I started years ago and I'm still not all that happy with it but Harlequin might be LOL)

Which one to concentrate on?

I'm kind of partial to the sci-fi midwife story, myself.

I tried doing NaNoWriMo five years ago. I ended up with 38K words that were mostly garbage. There was one good scene in all of it, though. I know a woman who gets over 100K words every year. Are they good words? IDK, but you know that old saying, you can't edit a blank page.

Are you in a critique group? I have found that having my peers read & critique my work inspires me to write & has improved my writing more than anything.

I do have a couple of online friends who are writers though. One thing I've been looking for....there used to be a website for writers that was called "Details" or something like that. You could ask all kinds of questions about history, scientific questions you needed to know for a story, clothing and fashion details from a particular era, etc., and likely someone might know something, or you'd get some kind of discussion out of it. I can't remember the name of the site and I've lost the bookmark. Do you know of any such site?

I joined a couple of years ago but haven't done much (yet).

Your sci-fi story sounds interesting to me. I am a huge sci-fi fan and would go for that, but I wouldn't give up on the Romance.
