I Heard The Roses Dying

I Heard The Roses Dying

I heard the roses dying.
I could not tell you this.
You would understand.
I could not say they
were a lost part of us.

Petals scattered
upon the soil, it will
look pretty for awhile.

Speak softly in their
presence, and have no
tear upon your cheek.
It was not our fault, their
dying, it was not us.
