2. In the 1930's, aviation was an entire branch of the pulp publishing business.

Weirdly enough, for instance, there was a magazine called "Zeppelin Stories." It had a short published life and is enormously collectable today.

Aviation pulps translated well; they had nearly as much popularity overseas as they had here.

4. Squadron Airborne

by Elleston Trevor. Just found this one to add to the list. "A novel of the RAF in the Battle of Britain."

3. Falcons of France

by Charles Nordhoff. I never read it but a friend raved about it. On amazon someone mentions this book as a good companion novel to read along with it: Fighting the Flying Circus by Eddie Rickenbacher

I have another one but can't recall it right now. When I find it I'll post it for you.

5. Fate Is the Hunter by Ernest K. Gann.

It's a memoir, not a novel. He became a commercial airline pilot in the 1930's. I read it some years ago, and have been meaning to re-read for years.

12. "Hostage" by Kristina Ohlsson

It's a Swedish thriller about a plane that is under threat. The pilot is a Muslim, so everyone suspects him at first, but appearances can be deceiving.
