Ari Melber gave props to Sista Souljah!

Much respect to Sista Souljah - She was doing it and taking lots of heat when it wasn't easy to call out white folks in the way that she did. You had both sides of aisle coming for her neck. I'm not going to post what a former dem president said, since its frowned on DU to criticize democrats. I want to keep this thread going so I am not going to get into that conversation. That's not the point of this thread. It was nice to see a mainstream journalist give her props after she was so vilified in the past.

If you missed Ari's piece - it was about how black musicians have been talking about racism and police brutality from Sam Cooke, Billie Holliday, KRS One, NWA, Sista Souljah, Tupac and others. He talked about how white America dismissed what black artists have been saying for so many years. To the point of the Govt and the FBI getting involved.

I wonder how Sista Souljah's message would be received today? Not what they wanted her to be or painted her out to be. But actually listened to her. A lot of white folks sound a lot like her today when they talk about white supremacy and structural racism. It just sounds less militant coming from white folks.
