Dont all white Americans benefit to one degree or another from white privilege?

Last edited Sun Jan 21, 2018, 08:13 PM - Edit history (1)

If so, and if that privilege, no matter how big or small, is a by product of institutional racism...then...

Isnt racism a problem ALL white Americans must address?

complication caused by being a disfavored race in America.

For example, a black physician is more likely to be stopped in a random traffic stop than a white physician. Black physicians have to give their kids "the talk." White physicians don't.

There isn't a level of success at which black people are as secure as white people.

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-stanford-minority-drive-disparties-20170619-story.html

Researchers from Stanford's Computational Journalism Lab and the School of Engineering found that black drivers are generally stopped at a higher rate than white motorists, and Latinos are stopped at a similar or lower rate than whites, after adjusting for age, gender, time and location.

After being stopped, black and Latino drivers are ticketed, searched and arrested more often than whites. For example, when pulled over for speeding, black drivers are 20% more likely than whites and Latino drivers 30% more likely than whites to be ticketed. Black and Latino drivers are about twice as likely to be searched compared with whites.

And that goes for every white person in every country. Racism must be addressed by all white people, especially in the US.

race is a social and political construct and it's time to confront that

Confronting it is like trying to ask fish to confront water. Or an entrepreneur to confront the damage and inequality that is a necessary consequence of unfettered capitalism. Too often, the response is a personal one. We rationalise a defense on the basis of personal experience. Say something like “I worked really hard to be where I am.”
