How is racism alive and well in 2017? It is all about the money? WHAT?

Just saw this posted, absent the question mark, by a white (assume white) poster at a youtube chat of a progressive talk show.

I wanted to jump all over it but the person who posted it is a moderator and always argues with me and always takes the you know what side of things.

The arrogance of white people to say this astounds me.

It also pretty much excuses the real reasons for racism that have ZIP to do with economics or money.

But if I were to attack over this I would be attacked and told that I am too serious and so on.

I say assume the person is white, it is a he, because of everything he has said, but I cant check and find out without getting into another argument.

as any well off, educated black person can tell you. The first question asked of a man stopped for a DWB in a nice car in most parts of the country is "Where'd you get this car, boy?" It doesn't matter if he's wearing a hand tailored Italian suit, has an attache case on the passenger seat, and government tags. He's black so it can't possibly be his car so he must have stolen it, the justification for the DWB.

Bigots see the only the black/brown and relegate it to the underclass, usually the criminal underclass.

But money? No. That doesn't make a damned bit of difference.

Hoods and robes are still popular, heritage and all of that, but are no longer necessary because racists are proud of being just like the President.

I would say instead it is more brazen. There's no need for hoods and robes when you have the U.S. President as one of your primary spokesmen and defenders.

But while still a serious problem, racism, overall, is (I'm pretty certain) much less prevalent than when I was a kid 60 years ago, when black people (or POC) were prohibited from living in certain neighborhoods, attending certain schools, patronizing certain establishments, drinking from certain fountains, etc. There were (practically) no black movie stars, CEOs, newscasters, congressmen, governors, etc. Elect a black man president in the Fifties? No way!

and it can be argued that the election of President Obama is proof. All the rhetoric about Obama not "really understanding America" is really about the idea that only white people can understand or even be truly American.

While black faces are more visible, the same race hatred is still there.

You write:

The arrogance of white people to say ["It is all about the money"] astounds me.

The arrogance of ANY white person to pontificate about racism AT ALL should astound you.

Like you, I am offended when white folks tell me that racism is just one form of the economic oppression suffered by all people and that, if we just correct economic injustice, all will be well. I am ALSO offended when white folks tell me that people who look like me don't think economic injustice is a top priority.

Racism is housed in the "evolved" DNA of white people who have assured each other for thousands of years that they are not merely intellectually, morally, and spiritually superior to us, but genetically superior to us. It is that inbred ideology that gives them the "moral freedom" to treat us like chattel, beat us, rape us, lynch us, imprison us, execute us, and, yes, steal from us. It is, however, either an unawareness of historical fact, or the willingness to sacrifice fact for the sake of a political talking point, to not admit that economic oppression (read: capitalism) - together with an intrinsically racist criminal justice system - are the new masters' primary tools for maintaining a chainless slavery.

This dismissing of the economic justice issues we face is particularly troubling for me because I speak to groups of young people living in urban areas a lot and a majority, in my opinion a substantial majority, of them are unconvinced that we (meaning those of us trying to fire them up about the Democratic Party) really give a shit about social justice issues because the folks who are telling them we do care won't speak out forcefully about things that affect their everyday lives like the racial and cultural genocide being perpetrated through: every level of the criminal justice system; and, a social support network that has trapped them in despair. (Heck, it wasn't until Trump turned it into a political flashpoint we could use against Republicans that many in the DU community started showing support for Colin Kaepernick.)

When we aren't talking about economic oppression and they don't believe we care about social justice issues, we are losing needed votes. If you don't believe me, take a moment to compare turnout in Wayne County Michigan (where we make up an overwhelming majority of the registered voters) in 2012 and 2016. We lost Michigan by around 10,000 votes, statewide. In 2012, President Obama's so-called "bad" year, more than 60,000 more people got out and voted Democratic than voted for us in 2016.

The Democratic Party can't afford to lose 60,000 votes. If anyone thinks that CLAIMING that this party stands for social justice is working at the ballot box while we have major party spokespeople supporting DA Bob McCulloch's grand jury whitewash of the murder of Michael Brown, while our party's office holders won't prosecute anyone participating in this epidemic of blue on black murder (not even the f'n murder of a child, Tamir Rice), and while our cities are dying as unbridled capitalism leaves them to rot, they need to think again.

Sure, 90+% of us who do show up and vote will vote for Democratic Party candidates (e.g., I am black but I am also a Marxist. I have voted in every election at every level beginning 1972, BUT I have never voted for anyone but the Democrat in a general election in my entire life) because we actually suffer when Republicans win, but 60,000 less Democratic voters in Wayne County is a message to those who think that we can keep on doing what we did in 2016 and still win.

Yea, white people need to be called out for the way they talk to us and about us . . . ALL white people.

last evening, a group of friends and I were chatting around a table about 'current events', mixed company...me the only POC, that made it mixed...started off with talk of the terrorist shooting in Las Vegas, lots of tut, tuts, empathy exclamations....but inevitably talk got around to racism and shooter and response to him as terrorist-maybe racist vs 'lone wolf'-crazy person. The shooter being Being from Mesquite, NV...I opted for racist, since that's clive bundy territory and one of the people started overtalking me with rising tension and volume that it is money that drives racism. I said it's tribal and skin color...his issues got in the way so much that I had to move away to prevent violence....I just can't handle this type of talk anymore...but just before I left I asked him, "what are you some kind of commie or something"? The people laughed but I let myself get too angry and had to leave. I always kind of trusted R...., not anymore....I guess he's berniebot max.

Vegas was not terrorism because terrorism can only occur when the perp is doing it for religious or political reasons and that surely isnt the case here.

Funny how this teaparty racist piece of shit asshole could know that already.

Look, lets face it, Obama's name and skin color drove them completely out of their minds and they are now going to destroy the human race.

I am certain of it.
