I liked this quote by Gary Cooper written long after her death: "Born a slave somewhere in Tennessee, Mary lived to become one of the freest souls ever to draw a breath, or a .38." She doesn't sound like someone to be trifled with.

How is there not a major motion picture about this woman's life yet? We were talking about that here the other day, about how many amazing stories about women of color were ignored by mainstream Hollywood. This one is some low hanging fruit for sure. People of Hollywood, take note!
