(34,648 posts)I did not agree the idea that Obama doesn't want me to know about a great speech.

(24,544 posts)same poster about a month ago.
But please don't bring this into this forum. This forum is one of the last few sane places on this web site. Please delete your OP.

(30,439 posts)We're on the same page in this. That post really pissed me off, but I wanted to know what other African American DUers thought. If you really want me to delete it, I will

(24,544 posts)But come to think of it, the folks that start these disgusting, offensive OPs or can't kick and rec them fast enough are never, ever, EVER in this forum. And damn, if THAT doesn't truly say it all, then I don't know what does.
So maybe I'm worried for nothing.

(31,849 posts)In response to your post in that other thread:
But I decided not to feed the trolls.
Number23
(24,544 posts)NAILED it.
Would have killed that shitty thread, but I agree with you that feeding the trolls seldom does any good. Wastes your time and the trolls are happy as pigs in slop that somebody gave them the time of day.

(135,425 posts)I'd urge the group hosts to use their full, unbridled, "Can't Stop Me" powers to get rid of people who pull that kind of shit in here.
There's no appeal, either.

(24,544 posts)people. We've never had to. This tends to be one of the few places where people know not to come and show their ass.
In the almost two years that this group has been on DU3, we have had to block one, yes ONE asshole from this forum. There have been a few others that I made sure that they knew they were not welcome but we have only had to block one person.
I would be very hesitant to block that OP because my understanding is that she is a black woman. If you're looking for any posts or OPs from her in this forum, you'll be looking for a long time and I think that says everything that needs to be said.

(135,425 posts)I'm glad it's a tool that doesn't need to be used often here. There aren't many places to relax on this board, if you know what I mean!

(32,043 posts)You know why? So I can respond. Because the op of THAT thread is full of shit.
Can any of the rec'ers of that thread even ADMIT Dr. King was a black man from the South? Answer: Nope. Blackness makes them nervous.
Number23
(24,544 posts)That's why I said to Cali that maybe I was worried over nothing. Especially because the folks that LOVE shit like that with a capital L are Never, Ever, EVER in this forum. Never show up here to discuss racism, black unemployment, sexism directed towards black women and racism within the feminist community, racial discrepancies in prison sentencing, housing discrimination, over disciplining of black children in schools, poverty in the black community, racism in the work place, etc. etc. etc.
But these same folks are always the first ones to jump up and down clapping like meth-addled seals when a) some black "leader" says something bad about Obama or in this case some white man twists the powerful words of a long dead black leader in order to slam this president or b) whine and complain about how the drug war discriminates against blacks as if they give a shit. What the real complaint and the real issue is that the drug war inconveniences THEM and their need to get blunted on the weekends.
Can any of the rec'ers of that thread even ADMIT Dr. King was a black man from the South?
And it's about to get scarier. He was a deeply RELIGIOUS, fiercely PRO-BLACK man from the South too! Oh noes!!

It doesn't work. Nobody has any idea how MLK would react to the specifics of today's world, or had he lived, how his views might have changed over time, and where he would stand now.
Anyone who says that they can is full of BS.

(135,425 posts)Don't tell me what FDR or Lincoln "would do," either!
These people are a product of their time, their place, their culture and their time in history. Then ain't now.
I agree wholeheartedly with the point you're making.

I think this one is one of my favorites. And it was a brother that posted it too:

#BlackPowerisForBlackMen because black on black violence never includes sexual violence against women.

(1,989 posts)I saw this post in the original thread and absolutely refused to respond. I have no desire to use MLK as a weapon against Obama. MLK was a civil rights leader and Obama is the President of the U.S., apparently to the chagrin of many on DU. These men will hold two totally different roles and responsibilities in our history.
I understand "frustration" with policies. But, I get tired of the "grow a pair" group on DU who apparently think we have only one branch of government. Now, to be honest, when we held the WH, the senate, and the house...and I didn't see much movement on what I thought was important, I was grumpy.
But, in today's political atmosphere, the man would have to be Houdini to get what I would want done, done. I can honestly say (in a sad way), I will be glad when the President's term is up and they can get the person they want. And, I have no doubt, it will be someone who can't win a primary...much less the White House. So, they will have to AGAIN settle for a moderate to left candidate, which ironically, is where we now know the country is.
I have NO DOUBT Martin Luther King would be bursting with pride at President Obama and the first family. Then again, during the heckling bruhaha, I actually had a disagreement on DU with someone who was convinced Frederick Douglas would have been more pleased with Sturz than Michelle Obama...SERIOUSLY.
After the Trayvon Martin incident, I could barely read through some of the crap posted here without wanting to throw up or toss my computer out. So, I spend most of my time lurking or staying off the site. GD is NOT the place to discuss issues about people of color for me on this board. And, there is probably a darn good reason, they choose NOT to come into this group.

(10,893 posts)that thread hasn't even been hidden yet. I would expect this type of garbage from RWNJs, but I never thought I'd see a thread like that on a Democratic website, that uses a dead civil rights icon to promote an obvious Obama Derangement agenda.
I honestly don't know what has happened to GD. There was always a handful of DUers who are quick to blame Obama without analyzing all POVs in a situation, but some of the regulars there seem to have really gone batshit ever since the Snowden saga commenced, doing just like the far-right does and ignore all facts, ignore the contradictions of Snowden and Greenwald, and ignore Congress's role in continuing the tracking programs, while believing any paranoid conspiracy theories about the big, bad government and a President from their own party. It almost feels like I'm on an Alex Jones website.
Number23
(24,544 posts)same poster that used MLK to try to bludgeon Obama. I'm pretty sure that one had almost 300 recs.
This place is so full of impotent craziness I think it's damn near a lost cause. Skinner and EarlG have cleared out a couple of really odious, obvious trolls lately (including one psychopath that compared Edward Snowden to Harriet Tubman. Yes, I'm serious ) but GD is like a great big bridge that the trolls just can't stay away from.

(34,857 posts)No one knows what he would have thought of Obama. Using his legacy to attack the President is absolutely disgusting.
What's worse is that those who do it are almost always white. It's something I've seen from the left - white liberals attach themselves to black critics of Obama for some reason ... as if it justifies their hatred. Republicans do it too, but they don't know any better.

(32,043 posts)Generally is perceived that way(Obama basher)-but I perceive her as a self hating black woman. . . I question if that really is a black woman. Generally - she doesn't relate to us at all. You will never see the op ever show empathy for black Americans.
