older members of the black community. Look, I understand why some of the black endorsements have come about for BS. Many of his endorsements are from AA's who no longer hold public office, and have been out of the spotlight for some time. BS' campaign gives them an opportunity to reintroduce themselves, and maybe even land a job with a campaign that has struggled to connect with minority voters. I ain't mad at 'em for being opportunistic. Nina Turner lost her own election, and traveling the country for a campaign that's raking in millions from small donors, is a chance to raise her own profile. I get it.

What I am mad at, is them keeping quiet when someone like John Lewis comes under attack from BS' more exuberant "supporters". Silence is consent AFAIC. I saw some of the most vicious anti-black rhetoric I've seen in a long time, and this was reportedly from supporters of BS. Names like "race hustler" were thrown around with apparent disregard of John Lewis' biography.

I keep hearing about this generational divide among Black folks; but, I'm not seeing it in real life. The only place I see it is on the internet, where contrarian views always produces notice/celebrity ... but only when it is promoted by non-Black folks, for their own ends.

But i can't feel anything negative towards her.

And John lewis is for sure one of those i will never speak against.

There are times where even if you disagree you have to just let it go.

But the hatred towards lewis started long before his recent comments. And i think his recent comments had a bit to do with that.

What some people don't realize is that his supporters won't allow even a snowflake to touch his back. Just a whisper of criticism will get noticed and squashed faster than bravenak's hand on the bug. Berniebros would be best served to leave him alone...try as they might, they will not get him under a bus.

First, I thought John Lewis said he didn't meet Bernie Sanders in the 60s - not that he had never met him.

Also, so John Lewis doesn't remember meeting Bernie Sanders in the 60s. Who cares? It is entirely possible for him to have met Bernie at some point and not remember it. Bernie wasn't a senator then. He was a college kid at the time, one of MANY. He could very well have been near him at some point, or even introduced to him, without Rep. Lewis remembering it. But Bernie would of course remember, because hey it was John Lewis.

Why are so many non-issues being made into issues? Hillary wore a gold jacket! OMG must be some kind of subliminal message. Some photo might be of a young Bernie Sanders or might not be. What possible difference does that make?

But to attack John Lewis. No way would Bernie Sanders do that. These supposed supporters are way out of bounds. And I say "supposed" because they aren't actually giving Bernie any support by doing this kind of thing. They are hurting him, not helping.

39. John Lewis: The 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act
Fri Feb 12, 2016, 09:08 PM
Feb 2016

I am appalled, simply appalled that he would speak about the Civil Rights Act.

....................................................................................................................

Congressman John Lewis, US representative of Georgia’s fifth congressional district, shares his experiences as a leader in the civil rights movement in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

On his call to the movement: “The action of Rosa Parks and the words and leadership of Dr. King inspired me to join the struggle for human dignity… We were [all] inspired by what I call the spirit of history. Call it what you may, sometimes there is something that tracks a person down and it urges, ‘You must do this. If you don't act, if you don't do it, who's going to do it?’”

On his continued fight for equality: “Under the rule of the law, you cannot have equality for some and not equality for all. I fought too long and too hard against discrimination based on race and color not to fight against discrimination based on sexual orientation.”

On the legacy of civil rights activists: “They helped change America forever. The civil rights movement [ultimately] led to the women's movement, the gay rights movement and the workers’ movement. We have witnessed what I like to call a nonviolent revolution, a revolution of values and ideas.”

So powerful. Sorta breaks your heart and then makes it whole again. Two men, John took the beatings and the abuse and carried on for your civil rights. He never faltered. He staid the course. Such a beautiful man, he helped make the way for Barack to become our first African American President. I adore both of them.

They are building the future.

No, not shown any respect, yet they do respect the future and it shows, here.
