Do you guys think we'll have another one in our lives? I don't know - I'm 40. I'm halfway to the finish line here.
But since he is pretty much the worst of the worst (maybe even worse than Bush ) - does this mean we don't get another shot for 300 years? Discuss.
Note: My personal belief - I don't think he IS a failure - but since he is being painted as the biggest demonic vile intrusive autocrat ever -then I'm guessing this is where DU is at for the next few years.
Note 2: Sometimes I can be a snarky asshole - but it felt good to post this.

(5,044 posts)I've had disagreements (personally) with every President that has ever been elected, including those from my own party. President Obama might not be doing 100% of what I would have hoped, he is doing 90% of it. Truth is, people ARE holding him to a different standard.
Hang tight my friend, when all the dust settles and when democrat's look back on the Presidents tenure after he has left office, they are going to look fondly on his time as President.
As for speaking to the next black President, god let's hope it's not 300 years. Seeing the amazing talent and people of character coming up through the ranks, I think it's going to be sooner than you might think.

(24,544 posts)So he can be the first black pres AND the first black VP! Wouldn't that be grand??!
You know what cracks me up, the braying, whining about being called racists by the same folks who coincidentally have the EXACT SAME TALKING POINTS about this president as the Freepers. No, can't call that out. No, that's just too mean! Better to pretend that water is dry, the sun rises in the West, ANYTHING but acknowledging the great big fat assed 9000 pound gorilla that's staring you in the face and has been for the last five years.

(24,544 posts)Getting some brown tail 40 years ago does NOT an enlightened individual make.
DU has disgusted me for a while but the past few weeks have completely taken the cake. I didn't think anything could top the Grade A foolishness that was Loyalty Day but as usual, this place has no floor when it comes to making a spectacular, clueless ass out of itself.

(32,025 posts)The crass and ignorant: Once you go black, you never go back.
Wait - wait. It's coming. Probably from that Cheerios jerk who said our husbands were with us because they wanted to conquer us!
Fucking idiot! he has us on ignore anyways so he can't see any of this.
Carry on.

It's only cute when it's a little kid saying it.

FDR didn't do what he did without a huge majority in both houses of congress.
Give Obama that congress and see what happens.

(32,025 posts)If I saw half the vitriol lodged at the Republican House that I see being spewed at Obama I would probably be - eh? Okay. To each their own. But I'm not.
Anyways the Freepers must be loving this insanity and saying a bunch of "We told them so's".
And wondering who is going to protest vote us into Chris Christie or Jeb Bush.

(24,544 posts)For some reason, people keep chiming up with the "Bill Clinton endured the same" idiocy which a) is not true and b) assumes that people who sense the double standard from the left in the treatment of this president were not there when Bill was pres. We were.
I noted that Bill had detractors left and right and though he probably hated his left detractors almost as much as his right ones, at least there was some daylight between the two. This president has had no such luxury. The screaming this man has endured since BEFORE HE EVEN TOOK OFFICE is unprecedented in my opinion. And pretending that we can't tell the difference between how Bill was treated and how Obama is being treated is the height of condescending bullshit.

(24,544 posts)"We know about Vince Foster. And Monica. And Whitewater. And the disgusting attacks on Hillary from the right. And we were pissed then.
...But I am willing to bet everything I have in my pocket right now that Obama probably finds his critics on both sides equally exhausting. Considering how similar the attacks are in message and overheated foolishness often based on mistruths are from both sides, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if he saw very little daylight between his critics on the left and right. And THAT'S the real issue here for a lot of us."

Edit: And Kenn Starr would be a walk in the park compared to an obstructionist Congress determined to obstruct and keep you from doing anything, including making the simplest appointments. They are so determined to minimize this president that they don't even care how horrible it makes them look in the process -- something that has been deemed "unprecedented obstruction" by even the most casual political observers. Toss in Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, the lingering PUMAs, and the shrieking manic "progressives" on the left, and again, the comparison between Bill and Obama falls flat.

(24,544 posts)You are much too smart, creative and artistic for an ambassadorial role. Ambassadors are bureaucrats of the highest order.
I'd create a Cabinet Level Secretary of Arts and Culture and let you run wild. Italian cookery, Spanish dance and African-American history for EVERY child at EVERY school!! Hell yeah!!

(32,025 posts)When you come to Italy - I'll have my mother in law cook for you. She and my husband's aunts will implore you to speak to the Italian people about how they need to revoke the law against asking if a man has balls.
Seriously - it was passed last summer. She makes a point of breaking it every single day.

Or do you mean the LATEST gentleman in the job?
Seriously, you're a young whippersnapper. Your wonderful life is in front of you, and I think -- despite challenges--that things will get better in time. It's going to be a long road, but I think we'll be OK in the long haul. Also, I think we're going to see more diversity, not less, in future. I don't think that diversity will include Marco Rubio or Bobby Jindal, if we're fortunate, but the American voter isn't as provincial as these Teaparty trolls want us to think.
Don't take the rantings of mean, nasty jerks. who are saying shit to DELIBERATELY incite us, seriously. That's their goal, to push, to shove, to goad, to bait, to insult, to denigrate, in the hopes of getting us upset and causing us to fret and lose focus--or best of all (from their POV) to get us to lose our tempers and lash out, so they can laugh and mock. Don't give them the thrill--fuck with them, instead. Incessant facts, and pointing out lousy behavior, will make them go "back in their holes" (and they should understand that Dumbya term quite clearly).
Also, we have to love the transparency of DU3. I'm not just talking about the hidden post thing, I'm talking about the profile page. I find it very amusing when I see someone shopping a trollish, rhymes-with-witchy, nasty-ass, anti-Dem POV after a Big Issue (or three) becomes the Topic du Jour, and then I go see their profile, and I see some shit like this:
