Last edited Tue Aug 11, 2015, 05:22 PM - Edit history (1)

I noticed someone had made a post claiming to be a "Left wing white supremacist" and he stated that Voting for Bernie was particularly in the best interest of PoC"

My question was, how would white DU members like it if Black DU Members Posted which candidates were in the best of White People?

Well I got my answer my post was locked, even though a DU jury voted 5 to 2 to "Leave it Alone"

I posted a compelling post from FB by Washington State Senator, Pramila Jayapal

"Why Saturday's Bernie Sanders Rally Left Me Feeling Heartbroken"

beautiful snip//

'To build a movement, we have to be smarter than those who are trying to divide us. We have to take our anger and rage and channel it into building, growing, loving, holding each other up. We need our outlets too, our places of safety where we can say what we think without worrying about how it's going to land, where we can call out even our white loved ones, friends, allies for what they are not doing. But in the end, if we want to win for ALL of us on racial, economic, and social justice issues, we need multiple sets of tactics, working together. Some are disruptive tactics. Some are loving tactics. Some are truth-telling tactics. Some can only be taken on by white people. Some can only be taken on by people of color. Sometimes we need someone from the other strand to step in and hold us up. Other times, we have to step out and hold them up. Each of us has a different role to play but we all have to hold the collective space for movement building together. That's what I hope we all keep in mind and work on together. It's the only way we move forward.'

Sometimes the workings of hosts can be Byzantine.

There was a thread some time ago asking why black folks didn't support Sanders. There were some very thoughtful and enlightening answers. Yes, I read them all.

It reinforced my own position that I can tell people why I favor one candidate or another in the primaries, but I can't presume to make their choice for them. If they're on DU, they're capable of thinking things through. I have to respect that even if I disagree with the conclusion.

Many of his supporters. I'm south Asian and there is another one of the same background who is doing the same when it comes to black people even though south Asians are also supporting hillary in huge numbers. But you won't see them doing the same towards their own group.

As for white people, the majority of them vote republican but they blame minority dems for pushing out the whites by focusing on things like race , gay right, women's rights.

Any challenges we have is just whining, and we need to shut up.

Wed Aug 12, 2015, 12:46 AM

should have got much more discussion when they did electoral analysis. especially when talking of demographics.

i know part of the lack of discussion is that the population is much lower and probably spread out more than black and hispanic votes to have as much influence.

if you break down the asian vote by country of origin the numbers were even higher for obama among certain groups. the asian vote is also not following the white votes with higher income people voting republican. among asians the higher income ones are actually even more likely to vote dem.

i think the above info is important in the class or race discussions.

many whites view govt programs as giving money to lazy types . but asians tend to credit govt programs as reason for their success.

i'm sure there are cultural factors and many other things also . but it's something that should be discussed more.

I know I personally made a giant note of it and was really truly heartened by it. The one thing about Barack Obama outside of his white mother, was his Indonesian step-father and half-Indonesian sister. I.e., his background and life stretched across 3 races and 3 continents. And the sad part has been his having been forced to straddle and tip-toe between 3 universes due to the virulent and toxic environment that assumes "white" is "universal" and everything else is "other".

Some obviously don't like it.

I am not saying that someone merely typing "in particular in the best interest of PoC" means that I must then go vote based on their say so.

I was just wondering how the DU community would respond to Someone of another race stating what's in their best interest. And since the Poster of was white, as he stated that he was, I specifically wondered out loud. How White DU members would respond to a Black DU member, stating what's in the best interest of White People?

I got my answer. They would try their best to shut down my post. Even though all the conversations were civil

It's my opinion, and mine alone that your first OP may have been a callout, especially with the direct link to the post in discussion. That again in my opinion only could appear to be meta. Those two things are not usually allowed in GD.

Hosts aren't perfect, we don't always get it right, and if we don't get an alert we don't go out of the way to lock stuff... Most of us don't like the censorship factor, unless it's a clear violation or we have consensus.

So...

In my opinion I think the person who alerted believed this post was in GD, they may have made a mistake and I understand that mistake. If this had been posted in GD and not AA the alert likely would have made sense.

Again I'm just trying to make sense of it, feel free to PM me if you want.

Thanks.

Tue Aug 11, 2015, 05:40 PM

if they feel a thread is too... something or other.

I think that was a lot less disruptive than a lot of the crap that gets posted in GD, but it was a bit meta. Complaining about another post in GD is generally a no-no, even if a jury passes it.

But, since you ask, I wouldn't really care if it was simply an opinion.

Tue Aug 11, 2015, 07:00 PM

But please don't take it as an insult. It's rarely, if ever, meant as an attack, usually more of an ironic observation.

There was a Meta forum a while ago where everyone with a gripe went to vent, and it got so out of hand they shut it down and the kind of discussions that went on in there became pretty much forbidden.

So, now "Meta" is basically shorthand for griping.

Discussing Racial issues within the party, tends to have negative reaction. It's unfortunate, because I don't understand how people can claim to be Allies but not want to here what we have to say.

Again though, the conversation within the thread was civil, even if people disagreed with me, that was fine, no one was out line. I think DU would have survived if it hadn't been locked

Tue Aug 11, 2015, 08:21 PM

after thread telling black folks what's good for us and how we need to fight for our rights and survival so what else would you expect from this place???

My question was, how would white DU members like it if Black DU Members Posted which candidates were in the best of White People?

But it's their job to inform us what we need and what's good for us. Didn't you know that? And how can us lowly Negroes know what's in their best interest when we are not members of their communities and do not know what they endure? We are not blessed with the divine wisdom to know all the way that they are.

It tickles me to no end. A black person will say to these people, "I don't know anyone black who agrees with any of the unhinged BS that you are spouting" and the response to that is always "Who appointed you the SPOKESPERSON for all black people!1one"

Yet some white, South Asian, or decidedly NON BLACK person will trip over themselves to condemn #BLM and cry crocodile tears that us black folks are "hurting our cause" and this same crowd who screamed at ACTUAL BLACK PEOPLE for speaking our minds cannot applaud that closedminded stupidity any faster. This place has lost it. 100 percent lost it.
