The PINK TAX made me pay 25% more than a man today!

When Congresswoman Jackie Speier introduced a bill to eliminate the Pink Tax a few months ago I was thrilled. But the male leadersnip in Congress have sat on it (what a surprise). When I went to CVS today to buy deodorant I compared prices. The name brand deod. for women had the exact same ingredients and size but cost 25% more than the male variety. I asked the cashier what the difference was and he looked at everything on the packages and said, "None". That is why I bought the "male" variety which was a dark green color as opposed to the literally PINK women's variety.

Why do women have to pay more while we earn less? Why does the MAJORITY (yes, women are 51% of the US population) get penalized in so many ways in this country????!!!!!

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) introduced legislation aimed at preventing companies from pricing similar products and services differently based on gender.

Twenty-seven of Speier's Democratic colleagues signed on to The Pink Tax Repeal Act, which would allow "the Federal Trade Commission to enforce violations and gives State Attorneys General the authority to take civil action on behalf of consumers wronged by discriminatory practices."
Women get hit with a double whammy: They make less for doing the same work and they pay more for the same product or service because it’s for women," she said in a statement. "Whether it’s a pink teddy bear, deodorant from the same manufacturer, or a white laundered shirt, it’s time to say enough! Discrimination is illegal.” Speier's introduction of the bill purposefully coincided with national Equal Pay Day.

I've never seen a woman there as a customer. I don't think I've even seen a girl there as a customer.

They charge more for "styling", which I'm guessing is defined as female customer.

I understand charging more for extra services, but generally, woman get charged way more for the same "just cut my hair with scissors."

There are always women in there, and none of them ever gets the "Just cut my hair with scissors" package.

I see other women there; but now that you mention it, I do see more men than women.

I just get a haircut with scissors, nothing else, and I get the senior discount.

workers, sure.
mothers of young customers, sure.

never as customers themselves. i'm sure it happens, just saying i've never seen it, so i have to assume it happens rather less often. makes sense, though, because the few times i've been in salons, there are very few male customers there.

It's these incessant little things all day long that add up to a high level of frustration. Why should anyone have to check those things? It's ridiculous.

worked in this particular example, though only because someone thought to look at the "male" version and do some research.
so even when it worked, it only did so after an extra cost of time and effort.

in other cases, it doesn't work at all.

and is illegal. Why should a woman pay more? Why should a woman have to "compare and shop around" instead of going and getting what is equal to a man who doesn't have to "shop around" and spend time and energy to get equality? Many women aren't even aware of this. Why are women targeted by men in corporate businesses? This purposeful discrimination by male dominated corporate America and is not a "rant", it is illegal price gauging based on gender.

and I included in the print, above the video clip. It is everywhere and on so many different things. Women pay on average thousands of dollars more a year for the same products and services as their male coumterparts.

with products and services. And why do women have to spend the time and energy to get what men get for zero effort? We are being ripped off due to our gender and that is illegal and discrimination. Do YOU want to spend extra time and energy checking all the prices and packages for all the goods and services you shop for or purchase? I won't even begin to go into the "auto repair" end of the discussion. That could go on forever.
