My senior moment part deux - Sanjay Gupta was correct about seniors & medical marijuana.

This is a recent & 2nd pic of our medical marijuana plants. I'm no growing expert, but they appear to be budding nicely. We're a couple of CA seniors who enjoy gardening.

Yes, good info. I'll watch for mold/fungus. Fungus got ahold of the hydrangeas in my front yard. nt AnotherMother4Peace Aug 2023 #15

if you snip off a bunch of the biggest fan leaves at this point. I always find the hardest part is deciding WHEN to harvest. I'm usually outside with a magnifying glass looking at tricombs most of the months of sept and october here in New England.

I realize many who grow adhere to your advice to remove large fan leaves as plants mature, thinking to increase harvest of bud. In my opinion those leaves are the plant's solar panels and are needed to collect energy which will fuel bud maturation. In fact the plant will consume stored carbohydrates from those large leaves and they will naturally begin to yellow and fall off on their own during the maturation process (unless grower continues to pump the plant with fert, esp. nitrogen). Now I am talking about natural sun (blue sky) and not indoor growing which imposes different considerations.

they serve their purpose. It's actually difficult to improve on Mother Nature, imo.

13. Mold!

I've tried it both ways. Mostly i do it to open up spaces inside the plant for good airflow. The yellowing leaves often harbor critters too... i always pull them off. I also trim off the interior buds. They don't tend to amount to much anyway. I treat them similarly to a fruit tree. I have tried bud spacing as well, like you might with a plum or a cherry tree. That's just too much work. I've been doing this on and off for over 20 years. I think i get larger buds this way. I've had mold kill entire crops before... but only when all the fan leaves were attached. I'm in the northeast and only grow outdoors.

He said something about more seniors turning to Medical Marijuana for their ailments. And boy did I identify with that.

That his cancer will return. A little bit of an edible calms him. We exercise, eat well, listen to calming music, care for our cats, etc. Medical marijuana is just one more thing that helps.
