If you're taking Eliquis...

Found out I have afib and am taking Eliquis.
My cost with UHC AARP Medicare Advantage was $6.04 a day.
2 ea. 5mg tabs daily.

I found the generic, Apixaban, at a Canadian pharmacy for about $3.75 a day. Still steep, but better than 6 bucks.

BTW you cannot buy Apixaban in the U.S. at any price.
Big pharma has congress on a short leash.

it is Eliquis. I was paying big bucks through Expresscripts. My druggist set me up through the company that makes Eliquis. I pay 10 dollars for a 30 day supply, that's 60 pills, 5 mg. Get you family doctor to prescribe the Eliquis (not through your cardiologist) go through the 340B program. My pharmacist filled out the paperwork, I am good at this price for 2 years, then after 2 years all I have to do is make a phone call and I am good for 2 more years.

I messed around with A-fib for 9 years until I found a fantastic surgeon at UPMC, Pittsburgh. He did an ablation, froze the bad electrical signal and I have been rid of A-fib for 4 years. If it does come back he said he will just go back in and do another type ablation. It is out-patient, just a catheter up the groin.

If any of you people live near Pittsburgh I can give you the name of a fantastic doctor. His last options to treat A-fib are a pace maker and defib, he has 3 other options he uses first. His first option worked for me, the cryo-ablation. My ECHO, heart infraction is back to normal, knock on wood.

I'm also on UHC AARP Medicare Advantage, but my Eliquis (same dosage) is about $1.50 a day. I'm in Missouri - can that be the cause of the difference?

I’m paying about $430 a quarter and that’s with my cheaper mail away program. They had their patent extended to 2028, so at this point no generic can be available. They’ll probably get it extended again.

And on the internet there's this thing called "Google".
Just type that in and you'll see a blank oblong 'box' where you can type in "Canadian pharmacies".

You'll be amazed at what you find.

Or you could just drive north and hope for the best, eh?
