Peterborough gun club stands firm (New Hampshire)

PETERBOROUGH — A gun club official says members are doing all they can to be considerate of their neighbors.

The Monadnock Rod and Gun Club will most likely not make any changes after receiving a letter from selectmen asking it to be quieter, said Mark Carbone, chairman of the board of directors.

Neighbors recently brought their concerns to town officials about noise levels at the shooting range increasing in recent years.

Town officials said they could not make the gun club change its activities because it has not done anything illegal. But selectmen sent a letter last week requesting the club not allow outside groups to use the shooting range, groups that have used explosives and machine guns.

aren't shooting at innocent people like so many other gun owners. Of course they're still inconsiderate jerks.

HGCI is right about their demands to ban noise ranges in counties with a population of 200,000 or larger.

HGCI, that is. I live in a county with over 200,000 people - almost 20x more than 200,000 people. We have hundreds, possibly thousands, of square miles of land with no population, buildings, infrastructure, or anything else that would limit the ability of a range to function. (Of course, I generally go shooting on state land or national forest land that is also within my county, so I don't worry so much about shooting ranges.)

and how many moved in after that, knowing there was a range there then complaining about the noise. Kinda like people that move into a house in the approach path of jets then complain.

Is there some new fangeled progressive list of acceptable entertainment? Only someone with a huge stick up their postierior wouldn't think shooting machine guns at reactive targets wouldn't be even a little fun...even some of the most ardent gun controllers..

maybe if it "just moved in"...OTOH, if it's been there since 1947, chances are the bitchers are actually the 'johnny-come-latelys'..
