Gun Control & RKBA

We just need to re-frame this whole conversation away from being part of the political debate, he said today. We need to expect more of ourselves and more of our leaders. Theres a disconnect between the interests of the American people and what our politicians are doing.
The Brady Campaign, named after Ronald Reagan assistant James Brady, wants to reboot the national conversation and part of that, it seems, means taking its name off the masthead. The group will launch a new website later tonight called wearebettterthanthis.org (its not live yet) that will play down its sponsorship by the Brady campaign.
The idea, he said, is rescue the debate from the poles on either side of the gun control issue. The new site will feature a petition demanding politicians start talking about gun violence and how to prevent it. It begins at the top with the president and Mitt Romney offering more than sympathy, Gross said.

(15,396 posts)Until controllers admit a ban (total or just handguns) is the ultimate goal the American people won't bite. There's nothing that will cause a wall of resistance like being lied to.
"Well this is a start" type stuff and fluff like "pistol grips are evil " turn off everyone but the most dedicated anti.

(17,502 posts)Sounds like they are doing the same thing he did when creating the tea party and Americans for Prosperity. It sounds more grassy rootsy, when it is still astro turf. Let us know when it is up.
they need all the help they can get.

(9,623 posts)about having guns but also I feel that there should be more restriction on all these high powered automatic rifels..and maybe people who have guns should have to have a license like we have for driving...

(17,502 posts)how I would describe the rifle used, technical thing. Automatics have been pretty tightly restricted since the 1930s. At least you are admitting they are astro turf.

(8,142 posts)Automatic rifles are heavily regulated, very expensive to own and were not even used in this shooting. The last time an automatic weapons was used in a crime was the North Hollywood shooting in 1997.

(1,299 posts)since then, nothing, the AWB was allowed to sunset because it did nothing to reduce crime, 49 of 50 states now have some form of Conceal Carry, SYG laws, need I go on? I hope your not hanging your hat on the Brady Bill as momentum for gun control.

(1,299 posts)He can't even get Pres. Obama to talk about gun control.
Here's what I predict: the controllers will whine and moan about their lack of influence, blame the NRA, blame pro 2A politicians, ask for donations, actually, they'll beg for donations, Meanwhile no one in the House or Senate will craft any legislation except the usual suspects, they will be ignored, gun rights will march on.
Have I about got it right?

(1,299 posts)you can do better than that, where am I wrong.
I'll add one more, controllers will post on internet boards more and more insults because they feel powerless to stop the advancement of gun rights.

(17,502 posts)I have read Abbey longer than you have probably been alive. I remember the day I read of his passing. After work, I went to the NCO club and drank a six pack in his honor. His views on gun control were closer to mine than yours.
