Marijuana And Cancer: Scientists Find Cannabis Compound Stops Metastasis In Aggressive Cancers

A pair of scientists at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco has found that a compound derived from marijuana could stop metastasis in many kinds of aggressive cancer, potentially altering the fatality of the disease forever.

"It took us about 20 years of research to figure this out, but we are very excited," said Pierre Desprez, one of the scientists behind the discovery, to The Huffington Post. "We want to get started with trials as soon as possible."

Desprez and McAllister first published a paper about the finding in 2007. Since then, their team has found that CBD works both in the lab and in animals. And now, they've found even more good news.

"We started by researching breast cancer," said Desprez. "But now we've found that Cannabidiol works with many kinds of aggressive cancers--brain, prostate--any kind in which these high levels of ID-1 are present."

You know the joke drug that is looked down on by most doctors. In 1974 they knew MJ shrunk tumors, how far did that get? This is good news, but what will they do with it? Will it go by for another 38 years while our government and doctors refuse to use this drug for it's true value. Or take more money from big Pharma and continue to make a joke of MJ. I'm going with the latter.

38 years ago I was 23 and feeling shame that I used mj the way others use anti-depressants, tranquilizers, anxiety drugs, sleeping aids, pain pills and anti-nausea meds so I didn't speak up politically or in public. That's changed for me.

What this discourse needs is more anecdotal evidence from those of us who have successfully used cannabis for over 35 years and have living proof of its efficacy.

Mass advertising and a public relations strategy oughta do it!

because it inhibits research.

our govt needs to move mj to a lower schedule in order to allow more research to go forward and to reflect the reality of cannabis.

reefer madness is an example of govt. intransigence, not good policy. if the majority of arrests were not for marijuana, I guess law makers would be more likely to reconsider. but, as a cash cow, I guess that's more important for some states - the money from the legal system, rather than the medical and entertainment sectors of the economy.
