Dogs can cry tears of joy when they are reunited with their owners, a small study has found.
Canines may be genuinely thrilled when they see their human companions after a long period of absence, Japanese researchers have said.
The tears are believed to deepen the bond between dogs and their owners.
The study, based on the behaviour of 22 dogs, looked at the reactions of dogs who were reunited with their owners and with other people they knew.

(4,407 posts)since Covid lockdown. They're not fond of the fuss with a pin brush, hose, and the blow dryer noise. Did the best I could at home, snipping and clipping, nails, bath and blow dry, then more torture with the comb, corn starch smoothing followed by that darn pin brush. Oh, some sticks for shots and that amazing sleepy mask. They're getting the full spa experience, you bet! But mama's the one wanting a Xanax until gentle but thorny Havanese Coco Rose of the Garden and Lady Godiva, the chocolate biker chick shih tzu are home safe and sound. Will they forgive my incompetence with tears of joy to be home or look at me with that "No you didn't do that to me today tears." (though I do feel lighter, cleaner, and so fresh and beaut-i-full) - Time for our naps!"
