Apparently I'm not past the over reacting stage of being a kitten mom

I gave the boys their flea medicine, today. I had some for kittens - liquid in an applicator. A different application version of what I used on Madoc and his siblings with no problem. I applied it and carried on. Less than a minute later I saw Arthur on the cat tree using the scratching post and for SOME reason I THOUGHT I saw foam coming out of his mouth! I GRABBED him and ran to the kitchen to wash him off. He didn't take kindly to that and I have the slashes to prove it. Of course, I then realized there was nothing on his mouth or chin so it was obviously some fluff that flew off when I grabbed him, or sort of optical illusion. Oh, and I just wiped a big white fluffy something off of Gryff's mouth.

But WOW was he mad at me!! I dried him off with a towel and tried to cuddled him but he wasn't having it. He jumped up and took off. I thought he was hiding away, isolating himself, which caused a nagging worry to embed itself and my panic amped up considerably. I searched the entire house, under and behind all of the furniture, behind all of the doors. I was almost ready to cry. Then I walked back to the den for another check and he was sitting very calmly on the cat tree. He's fine. He just has a panic/anxiety prone mom. Now he's at his usual place, behind me on the back of the chair. No foam in sight.

I'm going to be keeping a close eye on him, anyway, because I feel like a really pathetic mom right now.

I'm always so worried there's another, just waiting to happen so that panic trigger is at the ever ready position.

Arthur did ask for a kiss so I think we're good.

so many in a short time that getting panicky is a normal reaction right now.

My previous cat died despite all that the vet and I tried to do to save him. I was so crushed that I did not even consider getting another cat until 6 months later when I learned of an available kitten and was persuaded to at least look at her. She was such an adorable little 9 week old ball of fluff that I could not say no, so Ember came into my life.

Then, a few months later, I looked up to see some white foam on her mouth. It was real white, bubbling foam, not some fluffy piece if fabric or cotton. She was working her mouth quickly to clear it off and making awful faces in the process. I was terrified. But her vet said that she was fine. The vet told me that cats will sometimes get that reaction to something that is very bad tasting in a cat's taste pallet. It happens with kittens because, like human babies, they explore their world with their mouths.

I still have no idea what it was that Ember tasted to get that reaction. But she really was ok and back to her bouncy, silly kitten self immediately afterward. Me? Not so much. Took a while to get over the panic.

Southren, relatively harmless tree bug, but they stink if you crush them. (I put insects outside. No crushing here.) And, apparently, taste bad if eaten. Eeeewwww.

Also happened once after she caught & ate what I refer to as a flying house. Leaf green in color & about the size of my palm. Another harmless tree bug, but size flying can cause heart attack. Lol

A few years ago we had a horrible infestation. There the one bug Madoc will chase, but will not eat.

Perhaps they migrated?

Lol Madoc. Maybe he caught one & got a whiff or a taste once.

like Arthur has forgiven you, so please try to take some deep, calming breaths.

And remember that all cats use the portals.

Arthur needs to learn he is "king," but must always defer to the queen. You.

So glad he is ok!

I'm still feeding him 3 times a day, while the boys get a wet/kibble mix twice a day and always have kibble available. However, if Arthur leaves behind some scraps, Madoc gobbles them down.

He's in Chicago, right now, seeing a friend. I think the plan is to continue on home today. He's supposed to be at my place tomorrow to meet up with our niece, nephew and future niece. The nephew and his fiance are visiting from Florida. They informed me they'd be coming over to 'hang out' tomorrow. Considering how hot it will be, we will more likely be 'hanging in'.

And my niece is bringing Freya along so she can visit her brothers. I can't wait to see her. Of course there will be photos posted.

So glad he will be home soon!

Btw, I had a seizure Sheltie years ago. Anything resembling frothing sends me immediately into a panic meltdown. Ya, ptsd. 😓

Can't wait to hear how the boys' reunion with Freya goes. Should be quite interesting. The queen visits the boys!
