Cujo, the pirate kitteh

On most mornings he “blockades the harbor” that is my front doorstep. He demands his “chest o’ medicines” that are some cat food and cat nip. Once he has his fill he’s on his merry way to parts unknown. Cujo does not accept unsolicited skritches. There will be blood. That’s how he got his name. I only pet him after he side swipes my leg and even then it’s a few quick pats and that’s it. We thought he came with the house when we moved in a few years ago. I asked my neighbor across the street about him, but no one knows where Cujo came from. He’s not fixed. I would take him to the vet, but it’s not like I can just pick him up and put him in a cat carrier. My neighbor brought Cujo into his house. They were watching TV when my neighbor tried to pet him. My neighbor got his arm filleted for his efforts. Cujo learned how to get into my house from my own cats and sometimes makes himself at home. All of our cats came from feral litters so we let them roam. We got them all fixed and they get their rabies and flea meds. Cujo seems to get along with ours although he is a bruiser tom cat. I’ve had to break up a few fights that he was in with another large stray. Cujo is much nicer once he has a full belly. I know there’s a sweet old cat in there somewhere, but I think he probably has dental issues and that’s why he’s so unpredictable. I imagine that if Blackbeard had a cat on the Queen Anne’s Revenge, it probably would have been just like Cujo.

However, my fragile male ego needed multiple trauma surgeries.

may be able to hook you up. If not fed for a day, he may just enter a baited trap cage. The he could get taken to be neutered and checked over. Neutering makes a huge, huge difference in a male cat's demeanor. I had an old guy I never thought would be tamed, turn into a purring clown just 2 weeks after his procedure. He then decided he wanted to be a housecat. My resident old lady sister cats even became fond of him. Cat miracles can happen 😇. Good luck, he's a cutie pie 🥰

All the cats I have came from feral situations. Unfortunately since the pandemic the funds for the local TNR program have dried up. You have to log in to get a voucher at midnight on the first day of the month. You only have a few seconds and after that they go away. I could take him to my vet, but she only does surgeries one day a week. I'll keep checking with the county and the Humane Society. If anything opens up, I'll set the trap. Trapping is the easy part, it's the scheduling and being able to pick him up in the afternoon. I work about 30 miles from home, so it's tough right now. I know he gets fed elsewhere in the neighborhood too. I think he likes our food better. I don't see him everyday so it's really hard to make plans. Thanks for the suggestions.

cats as we can. WE OWE THEM A LOT!
This is a true story. The morning after Christmas 2021, I was busy in the kitchen baking cheesecake for dinner guests expected that evening. The mixer was going and I was still able to hear one of our cats, Stanley, yodeling in the bedroom. He does this occasionally for attention or treats & we call it his "opera". He was unusually loud so I went to check in him. I found him next to my husband who was on the floor having a major seizure. I called 911 as I noticed he was also not breathing well. If Stanley had not alerted me, my husband would be dead. The EMTs had to bag him for breaths and administer meds for the seizure. He spent 5 days on a ventilator in the ICU, was fortunate to recover.

Hooray for Stanley!! I can understand why you want to help the kitties. We'll take care of Cujo eventually. We can cover his costs, it's really just the timing that's the problem. It used to be so much easier. I could log in and print out a voucher and then go set the trap. They used to take the cats any Monday - Thursday at the local Humane Society. Now I can't even get anyone on the phone and the website doesn't have any helpful information. If I knew that I could just show up and pay, I would set the trap and get it done.
