would think twice about not caring for cats when he said that if he came back after death, it would be as a cat!

Middle eastern people tend to respect cats.
You know Muhammad and the kitten sleeping in his robe sleeve story? I think that helped the plight of cats.

Wish America in general respected cats more.

about westernizing Turkey. Outlawed the fez. Put Turkish writing in the western alphabet and made Turks learn it. He was pretty much an atheist and tried to eliminate Islamic influence. When I lived there, every establishment had his photo on a wall. Last time I was there, the manager of the hotel we were eating at insisted we see the Ataturk room where he often stayed. It was just like he left it and the manager faitly glowed with pride! Ataturk probably oversaw the writing of their constitution, which empowers the military to take over the government if it descends into measures that threaten their democracy. Last time I was there, I realized martial law was in effect when I saw an armed soldier on a corner with a kitty feeding station at his feet...that was before Erdogan. Needless to say, when there was a military coup several years ago to depose Erdogan, I was up all night, watching it and rooting for the military. I was hugely disappointed that Obama publicly supported Erdogan, who represented all that Ataturk wanted for Turkey.
